CQ Roy Seroshek Leo Luce Duane Hardy Dick Buckovic Donald Hansen and Coach Stanley Evatt Robert Krause manager Kirby Walker Dick Cabe Jimmy Matthiesen and Herbert Uulrich Pete Markarian Bill Carlson Bobby Morton Arden Kohse Jarrell Williams Robert Norqulst and James Guenther Bill Salsbury Joe Cassidy Roger Johnson Willard Guenther Kenneth Walker Louis Schramm and Arthur Haney BASEBALL Play ball came the familiar cry of umpire Russ Morton on April 5 With the exception of one player the Napavine team was composed of veterans The dangers encountered in baseball turnouts are nothing compared to football but varying incidents did not stop the team from batting and fielding practice An amusing feature of baseball practice was a bright star who brought some golf clubs and balls To top that the team played golf for several days to limber up their muscles Baseball ability ran exactly true to form for several promising freshmen ap peared to be very good during practice sessions New uniforms were promised by the coach but due to shortage of materials they did not arrive in time to be used this year One of our mightiest ace s Dick Buckovic, hurled fast balls fairly well on the pitching mound He provided us with a capable pitcher which Napavine didn t have last year Two weeks before the season began everyone worked busily on the field dust was flymg everywhere but after a lot of work the field appeared more presentable Players and positions for the year s squad were Bob Norquist Infielder Don Moravec Second base Don Hansen First base Dick Buckovic Pitcher Duane Hardy Catcher Dick Cabe Outfield Herbert Ulrich Outfield' Bill Carlson Infield' Kirby Walker Outfield' Roy Seroshek Third base' Jim Matthiesen Outfield' Leo Luce Short stop' James Guenther Outfield' Willard Guenther Outfield' Arden Kohse Outfield' Jarrell Williams Outfield' Bill Salsbury Outfield' Joe Cassidy, Outfieldg Roger Johnson Outfieldg Ken Walker, Outfield- Warren Milton, Outfieldg Louis Schramm Outfieldg Bob Morton, Outfield.

FOOTBALL PERSONALITIES Don Moravec fFortyJ as he xs better known was the captaln of the team and under his leadershlp the team rolled up many vlctorxes He was a flashy ball handler always full of fxre Forty graduates th1s year Don Hansen Sucker led the scormg for the team th1s year on long runs and lme plunges He was the passer and klcker for the flghtmg T1gers Don graduates th1s year also Leo Luce Although Leo was small he showed that dynamxte comes ln small packages He was a vltal cog ln the defense and hxs speed was a great help for gammg much yardage Leo also graduates bhxs year Roy Seroshek Tony at left end was almost immovable when opposing players trled to go around h1s sxde of the l1ne Th1s was h1s flrst year of football but he performed 11ke a star He was a great pass recexver Tony graduates th1s year Duane Hardy Duane lS truly a great center Hls s1ze and ruggedness prevented opposmg teams from commg thru the center of the lme He has one year of hxgh school left and should lead the T1gers to vlctory next year D1ck Cabe For the second stralght year D1ck held down h1s end posxtxon lxke a professlonal He was a stlcky fxngered pass snatcher D1ck w1ll be back next year Kxrby Walker Is a transfer from Callfornla He was of great assxstance as a fxrst class subst1tute Walker graduates th1s year Warren Mllton Mllton was another valuable subst1tute who proved that he could handle any 1ob on the fleld ThlS IS Warren s last year of football Napavme made a great xmpressxon on football fans ln the last three years by wmmng 19 games losmg only three and t1e1ng one We hope that the teams ln the future w1ll contmue the good work Scormg for the 1945 Season Hansen 98 Moravec 37 Cabe 13 Hardy 12 FOOTBALL Fresh from a summer of rest the small band of football players answered the coachs call to arms Wlth seven lettermen and about half a dozen green but determmed newcomers the team was plunged 1nto drllls and scrxmmages after two weeks of blockmg tacklmg and learmng plays Then Toutle Lake brought thelr team up and were turned back by a narrow margln of 13 to 12 An addl tlonal week was needed to polxsh up the team on offense and defense The season was a very successful one wxth the squad wmnmg s1x games and loslng two but th1s was good enough to w1n the Northern DIVISION Champ1onsh1p for the second stralght year Exght lettermen w1l1 be graduatmg but we hope to see next year s team do as well or better On September 28 a gallant crew of footballers from Rochester drove 1nto Napavme Wlth every lntentlon of defeatlng the T1gers and steppmg mto the league lead rxght off the bat but the game turned out exactly opposxte w1th Napavme runmng and passxng to a 52 12 vxctory October 5 the v1ctor1ous T1gers Jourmed to Tenmo to paste the Beavers ears back and walk off w1th a 15 0 vlctory October 19 the T1gers boarded a school bus and drove mto the b1g c1ty of Adna It was rauung and the fleld was wet and soggy but th1S d1d not d1SCOl.l1'ag9 the fxghtlng T1gers who rolled to a 25 12 V1Cf0l'y October 26 The fourth week of the season found the unbeaten T1gers at home p'av1ng host to Oakvllle but the T1gers weren t very hospltable about It as they defeated the Acorns 18 6 November 2 Mr Butler loaded the squad mto the old V 8 and took them on a return trxp to Rochester The T1gers seemed to be off keel but fmally edged out the WHFFIOYS 38 33 Thxs game however turned out to be the end of our 15 game wmmng streak November 9 Tenmo came to Napavme w1th mtentxons of beatmg the T1gers and thats exactly what they dld by a 24-6 score November 17 Napavme havmg won the Northern DIVISION T1t1e was entxtled to play Lebam for the Southwest Washmgton Champ1onsh1p whlch the T1gers vson last year However, Lebam havmg been beaten by Napavme a year ago was all af1re and they bumped the T1gers 28 to 14 , . . . . , ll 77 ' ' , Ll !l ' ' I .
