Boys ' Volleyball THE BOYS ' VOLLEYBALL TEAM, UNDER THE INSTRUCTION OF MR. ELLIOTT, DISPLAYED OUTSTANDING SKILLS AND ENTHUSIASM THROUGHOUT THIS YEAR ' S VOLLEYBALL SEASON. THE HARD WORK AND DEDICATION OF THE TEAM MEMBERS PAID OFF! THEY PLACED FIRST IN THE NORTH ISLANDS , AND IN THE ISLANDS , HAVING A FEW PROBLEMS, PLACED A STRONG THIRD. THIS THIRD IN THE ISLANDS, ALLOWED THE TEAM TO GO ON TO AN OUT- STANDING PERFORMANCE AT THE PROVINCIALS IN PRINCE GEORGE, WHERE THEY PLACED FIFTH. THE COMPETITION AT THE PROVINCIALS WAS TOUGH, BUT WE GOT A GOOD DRAW , SAID A TEAM MEMBER. THE TEAM, LOOKING AHEAD TO NEXT SEASON, IS IN DANGER OF LOSING ITS COACH, MR. ELLIOTT, A TEACHER FROM LADYSMITH. THIS COULD BE A MAJOR SETBACK FOR THE BOYS AND ALSO FOR NDSS. THE BOYS ARE ANTICIPATING A STRONG TEAM AND SUCCESSFUL SEASON, BUT WITHOUT A COACH THINGS MAY NOT WORK OUT. Track Field 144

Boys Basketball THE SENIOR BOYS ' STRONG AND TALENTED BASKETBALL TEAM SURVIVED A LONG, TOUGH SEASON THIS YEAR. THE TEAM PLAYED 29 GAMES IN THE THREE-AND-A-HALF-MONTH SEASON, WITH A RECORD OF 19 WINS AND 10 LOSSES. THE BOYS PLACED FIRST IN THE LEAGUE BY BEATING COWI- CHAN. THIS BROUGHT THEM TO THE NORTH ISLAND LEAGUE TOURNAMENT WHERE THEY WON EIGHT GAMES AND LOST TWO. THE TEAM PLACED SECOND AFTER LOSING TO COWICHAN, THE TEAM THEY HAD PREVIOUSLY BEATEN IN LEAGUE PLAY. THIS SECOND-PLACE STANDING BROUGHT THEM TO THE ISLANDS, WHERE THEY WERE DE- FEATED IN GAME ONE AGAINST MT. DOUGLAS, AND LED THEM INTO THE CONSOLATION ROUND. THEY DEFEATED PORT ALBERNI AND LOST TO COWICHAN ONCE MORE, WHICH PLACED THEM SIXTH OVERALL. GIVING OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES WERE CHRIS JANG, RICK SIDHU, GLEN JOHNSON AND MIKE WYSE. OUR TEAM ' S ENTHUSIASM AND MOTIVATION REKINDLED A LOT OF LOST SCHOOL SPIRIT WHICH GOT PEOPLE OUT AND CHEERING. MUCH OF THE SUCCESS CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE CREATIVE, ELABORATE POSTERS FREQUENTLY SEEN IN THE CAFETERIA. SPECIAL THANKS TO TRACEY WHITE AND JANINE DORSAY - MANAGERS WITH A LOT OF SPIRIT AND DEDICATION.
