As I look into the future lives of the Senior Class of 1953, 1 see Mildred Ferrell and Donald Ray have gotten married and are living in their little dream house of which Mildred has often spoken. Let me see now, I believe 1 see Peggy Gurley going to college at Greenville. Oh yes! Up there where she can be near Obie, her boy friend, about whom she was often worried because he would not write her enough. Since Raymond liked chemistry so well, 1 see that he has finally finished college and is a great chemistry teacher. Be careful there Hazel with that needle! Hazel has finished her training at Carolina Hospital in Wilson, and is now a great nurse. She is carrying on her fine work while she is still waiting for Linwood Earl to return from the Air Force. Click! Click! Click! Jo Ann Jones is typing away. She has finished her studying at W. C. and is now a secretary for a private business firm. Jo Ann is still as quiet as she was in her high school days. Well, I see R. A. is still at home working. He is plowing a fifty-acre field. Yes, R, A. is a very prosperous farmer. Woop! Junior, don ' t be too rough with those boys. They could not help losing the game. All of Junior ' s boys think he is a good basketball coach until they lose a game. All can ' t win. 1 see Hilda Gurley is clerking in McLellans. She is still flirting with all the good looking boys, as she did back at dear old Nahunta High. I see that Elizabeth Pike has finished her beauty course and is now working in her own little beauty shop. Elizabeth still has her friendly disposition that she had in high school. Since David Harper was such a good FFA worker during high school, 1 see that he is still follow¬ ing the modern method of farming and of hog raising. 1 see Joyce Strickland in her modern all-electric kitchen cooking supper, while John Flowers, her husband, holds the baby and waits impatiently. I see Linwood Howell walking into a jewelry store. Gee! What ' s that he is buying? It ' s a diamond ring for his future wife. Linwood has finally grown out of his bashfulness. Who is that coming down the road in a 52 Ford? It ' s Marjorie Sasser. She finally got her faith¬ ful Walter to come back to her. Harold Richardson is staying at home right on. Harold is waiting for Carol to finish school, with the hopes that Carol will marry him as soon as she graduates. I see Emmette and his loving wife, Gaynell, going down the street in Washington. Yes, Emmette is leading two small children. In a studio, a great radio announcer, John Edgerton, tells all the listeners about the latest tunes. He is now dedicating a song to his wife, Ernestine, and John, Jr,, while she is keeping house. The title of the song is ' So Used To Loving You ' . Well, I see Otis has become a great farmer. Otis entertains himself by singing ' Salty Dog Blues ' as he did the Senior Class when we went to Washington. Crawford Sasser has finally decided to be a bachelor. The girls still like to flirt with him, but he thinks he is better off single. As we, the Seniors of 1953, look into the future, we see a happy young couple going down to the License Bureau. Who could it be? Oh, it ' s Velma Rose and she is pulling Brooks by the arm. Brooks is fresh out of the army, and Velma Rose has waited patiently for her beloved. Velma Rose Barnes Prophet
