Facing a tough pre-season schedule, the inexperienced Ranger gridmen got off to a poor start by being swamied over by the high-experienced Selah Vikings. Late in the second quarter of the Selah game, Naches suffered a great loss when Wayne McCartney, veteran half-back and running star, fractured his leg. The Rangers were defeated in all their conference games up until the day they journeyed to Granger. There they tied the Spartans 6-6 in a hard-fought battle. The following week the 28

Dodson, senior Although the Rangers began the year with but three re-turning lettermen, the inexperienced team battled its way into the class ll finals. The Rangers slipped by their opponents in the tenth annual jamboree by registering a total of 28 points. llighland came in with 23g White Swan, 205 and Moxee, 18. On December 9, theliangers traveled to Kittitas to trim the Coyotes 28-19, and the follow- ing night they suffered their first defeat of the season by losing to their A league rivals, Selah, 39-42 at Selah. The following week-end they defeated the Yikings 23-20 on the home court, and went on to score their second league victory the following night by beating Thorp in a low-scoring co'-V test, 34-18. ln non conference ala the following week the Rangers skinmed by the Highland Scotties ' l Y 25-24 at Highland and trounced the Yakima B squad 45-26 at Yakima. In a return game with Highland, the Hangers were handed a 36-34 setback by Highland in a game played at Naches. Returnin to league lay on ,lanuary 6 the Naches team won a close 26-24 battle with the 5 P 1 A White Swan Cougars. The following night Naches trampled Granger 45-24.
