I I I FOOTBALL Four men oT The UniT were on The Gopher TooTbalI squad lasT Tall. OuTsTanding was Hank Weber aT guard who raTed honorable menTion on several AII- American selecTions. Along wiTh DuTch were GiesT and Leversee who saw a loT oT gridiron acTion as guard and end, respecTively. GreaT promise was shown by DerDerian, Then a iunior, as end. WRESTLING AND HOCKEY Big plug on The maT Team was Swede Nelson along wiTh TeammaTe Gus Schroeder. Swede grunTed his way inTo The conTerence Tinals beTore being deTeaT- ed. Schroeder wresTled in The I45 and l55-pound class. Nelson sTarTed aT I55 and laTer compeTed in The l65-pound class. Only NROTC regular on The hoclcey Team was dee Tense man GuTTerson, alThough I-lolTer, Taylor and Dean LindguisT were also on The squad. The puclc- sTers crammed in an eleven-game season, dropping Tive and copping six. BASKETBALL The inTer-guarTers baslceTbalI TournamenT was chuck Tull oT close games and hoT buclceTbalIers, The TournamenT was divided inTo Teams oT Two groups, A and B The A group being made up oT The sTronger Teams. In The A group compeTiTion, QuarTers Easy's Team, made up oT NROTC and V-I2 men, copped The TiTle by nosing ouT QuarTers Able by a slim Two poinTs, Sparlcs oT The Easy Team were Spriggs and SWIMMING AlmosT all Navy-and appropriaTely so-was The varsiTy Tanlc Team capTained by Eraser. Erom The NorThwesTern conTerence meeT, Adams, Eraser, Robb and Thomssen broughT home a Third place. Robb and Gorgen swam The breasT evenTs while Thomssen handled The baclcsTroke. Weisner com- peTed in The disTance evenTs along wiTh Eraser. Adams specialized in Tree-sTyle evenTs. OYMNASTICS MosT amazing aThleTic Team oT The year was The Toureman gym Team which won Top honors in The NorThwesT classic. A very good halT oT The cham- pionship Team was GilberTson and lvlahachek who placed second and Third, respecTively, in The meeT, Injury Torced ouT a TiTTh poTenTial member, in The person OT Samuels, around midseason. During TooTball season, GilberTson, Samuels and lvlahachelc were The baclcbone oT The cheer leader squad led by Mahachelc as BooTer King. Tommeraasen, wiTh Danielson and Conley spurring Able on. QuarTers Charlie Toolc The B group playoTTs by de- TeaTing QuarTers Balcer by anoTher close margin. QroTh was usuaily high poinT man wiTh AI Biesang close behind. John Olsen managed The TournamenT, in which II Teams were enTered.
