The 1979 varsity football team enjoyed a great deal of success this year. Early in the year the young team lost several games but improved each week and learned. They won three out of their four final league contests to claim a 3-3 record in league action. The young team developed a lot of respect by all of the F.W.L. teams. This year the Frosh-Soph Football team had a very good season. The Bobcats, supported by the depth of 19 sophs compiled a 5-2 season, losing only to Coquille and Brookings. Gordon Cromwell led as the offensive player of the year, and Mark Smith commanded the defense. Coaches Scott MacCleur and Marty Gary were both very satisfied with the cooperation and effort of the squad. This group is going to contribute a great deal to the future of M.P.H.S. football.
