Come to find out the Bobcats did go to state but not because they were rained out but because we were second in our league games. This was the first time since 1961 that we've gone to state in baseball. The Bobcats lost to Yamhill Carlton with the score of 3 to 2, leaving the Bobcats behind by one point. The greatest accomplishments came from the young first year golfers, Dan Hermann, Dave Hermann, and Jamie DeWald. Each not only learned the game, but learned it well enough to compete at the District level. Dan Hermann, junior, made a challenge for team medalist that fell three strokes short behind Wayne Morris and medalist, Seth VanEyk. The leadership this season came from the experienced upperclassmen, Rick Abel, Roger Johnson, Seth VanEyk - seniors; and Wayne Morris, junior. The team was recognized by the district coaches as the Most Improved team over the span of the season, even though they finished sixth in the District Match. Seth VanEyk was the most accomplished golfer for the team. In addition to being named team medalist, he also was the highest finisher for the team at the District Match. Junior Wayne Morris fell one stroke short of tieing Seth for medalist. Wayne, selected team captain by his peers, was the most consistent golfer on the team. The Most Improved medals went to both Seth and Dan Hermann for their efforts over the season. Jamie DeWald has great form. 57 Coach Howard holds the flag pole nicely. The past year was extremely enjoyable, my fellow officers were very good and they all did an excellent job meeting the responsibilities of their offices. My main goal for the year was to get students fired-up, to get them involved, and to make them want to stay involved in future activities. This year's elections were very good, this past year student council, revised the high school constitution to state that anyone wishing to run for a student body office must hand in a resume listing their qualifications and also why they would want that particular office, then those resumes would be reviewed by the executive student council which would narrow the field to two candidates for each office. There were three resumes handed in for Student Body President all three were so qualified that no one was excluded. It demonstrated the type of involvement that I had hoped would be shown in the election. Myrtle Point High School Student Government does very definitely have a great future, and next year's leaders, as well as leaders in years to come will benefit greatly by being an active part of this organization. The best of luck to all fellow Bobcats.
