In September, 1954, ninety-six students began their freshman year in high school. We were destined to become the graduating class of 1957. At first we were rather cautious, dubious about what we said and did, but we soon became acquainted with the faculty, students, and school itself. After falling into an organized routine, the year finished rapidly with the girls pressing the Senior's robes. In September we again returned to school, this time Sophomores, and more sure of ourselves. This year we really began to feel that we belonged when we won a crowning victory over the other classes as Patsy Meyer and Jesse Adams were elected Homecoming King and Queen. The year passed by swiftly and again we ended up helping the Seniors. This time, however, we decorated for an outdoor graduation. Thank goodness it didn't rain! Ah! We made the grade—halfway anyway!! This year we rate the title of Juniors and upperclassmen. It really made us feel good--uhtil a Senior walked by! We were proud to have so many of our Juniors on the rally squad. Yell leaders were Leona Wilson, Bette Birdwell, and Helen Smith. Pepsters were Patsy Meyer, Shirlee Van Fossen, Glenda Smith, and Sharlene Cribbins. On December 6-7 we presented the annual Junior Class play. Ours was the dramatic production entitled The People Versus Maxine Lowe. It was a great success. With the spring came the annual Junior prom with Frank Leuck and his orchestra and the theme Three Coins In a Fountain. Our last big project this year was the Junior-Senior banquet, for which we furnished the food. We ended the year as usual, helping the Seniors graduate. This time we ushered for graduation. We were more than happy to usher them out and claim the envied title of Seniors. September again, nine months of school again, and yet how different. This year we were Mighty Seniors. Many of our girls were represented on the rally squad. Yell leader was Barbara Norton and pepsters were Gay Shirtcliff, Arlone Mast, Leona Wilson, Bette Birdwell, and Patsy Meyer. Our annual Senior class play was presented November 30 and December 1. The play, January Thaw, was a big 3-act comedy hit. The first of the new year we were busy ordering announcements, getting orders ready for caps and gowns and preparing for graduation in general. On April 13 we had our Senior ball with the unique theme of Honky Tonk. This was preceded by a banquet for the Seniors, given by the Juniors. Umm—such good food! On May 27 was baccalaureate. The big moment came two days later. May 29. Yes, it was graduation. Now that the time had come we weren't so sure we wanted to graduate anyway. It meant we were on our own, each to go his own way. However, no matter where we went or what we did, the happy memories we have of going through high school—our teachers, activities, and students—these and many more can not be taken from us. 12
