And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance. UNCtL ONCERS ddird- Advit0l PRESIDENT This year the Student Council had a good start at getting organized. They chose five members representing M. P.H.S. at the annual Student Council Convention who were: Joe Martinka, Brad Ross, Jerry Wooley, Iris Brower and Dorothy Nelson. This group gained much knowledge on the order of Student Council duties. Setting up and enforcing rules for school dances was one of the many projects the council did to better our school. 5 Joe Martinka SCHOOL HIM Ml LEFT TO RIGHT: G.B. Goddard, Superintendent; Mrs. Darrell Brodie; Mrs. Paula Cook, Clerk; Mr. John Carman, Chairman; Mr. J.A. Davenport; Mr. Woodrow Robison, Mr. Robert Powrie. The school board has consistently worked toward expanding the educational opportunities for the young men and young women of the Myrtle Point area. During the past year our school board has taken steps to provide more than usual in new equipment for the school. Specific achievements number such items as new audio-visual, homemaking, commercial, and science equipment. One of the items of progress within the realm of the school board has been to draw up a set of school policies which have been formed during the years. Compiling this list of policies into a compact written form will assist them in making decisions as to future policies. t Our school board has given many hours of study and discussion to the problem of providing for the expanding enrollment that will be faced in the high school in the next few years. 6 VICE- PRIlflNl 7 MR. ARNIE ZIMBLEMAN Northwest Nazarene Drivers' Training; World History; American Histoi In 1951, 88 of us entered the big new world of high school. Our office were James Bowers, Joe Martinka, Earl Wilson, David Hardy, Howard Newdeigh, and Rae McKinley. The Mikado was presented that year and several freshmen were in the cast. As Sophomores, we got revenge when we initiated the incoming freshmen. We elected Joe Martinka, Bruce Whitaker, Iris Brower, Bob Richmond, and Harold Neideigh as officers. We were proud of Iris Brower who was chosen Princess for the Cranberry Festival. A special highlight of the year was our being awarded the service cup on the basis of co-operation. Another year went by; we woke up juniors. We were bound and determined to have the best prom and play ever to be presented. Daisy McCain, Jack Miller, Janet Williams, Jerry Cook, Bruce Whitaker and Jane Doyle were elected officers. Cracked Nutts , our junior play, was a big success, so we were told. We had lots of fun putting it on. Then came the big night! At 9:00 p. m. , March 6, we opened the gates to the Oriental Gardens , the Theme of our junior prom. We gave the seniors a buffet dinner which preceded the Senior Ball. Again we won the service award. Each year was getting better. What would our senior year be like? September, 1954 finally rolled around. Now we were seniors. We started off the year by electing officers: Alan Miller, Sonny Schulz, Wilma Counts, Dorothy Huffman, and Bruce Whitaker. Then we put on our Senior Ball, Out of This World and it really was! Our next big event was the carnival April 1. Next came our senior play, Our Hearts Were Young and Gay. Last, but not at all least, came graduation. Only 65 of us made it; some moved, others got married. We were small, but mighty! We wish to express our appreciation to Mr. Nichols and Miss Morton for their help in our senior year. We also want to thank all the teachers and parents who have helped make our four years at M. P. enjoyable ones. SHIM OFFICERS “■ma COUNTS '°nor society 3 4; Ljb, rif 'Annual °fficer , Class Officer 4- h„„ candidate 4- p„' ,,. eco Cists' i ’ PePClub4; ,s League t 2 Student Council Rep. Because the cost of printing the paper is so high, a price of five cents has been charged for each paper. The student body seems willing to pay this slight fee for a printed paper, though. The Myrtle Leaf has had concessions at games and held dances for money-making projects. The staff also sponsored a Personalities Contest. This year the Order of the M began to function actively for the first time in the past three years. The boys took on their first project, helping run the assemblies, with great enthusiasm and were very successful with it. Their next project was a dance after the last basketball game of the season. Another of the activities of the Order of the M was the initiation of boys who had made their letters for the first time this year. Advisors Congratulations to song queen, Carol Long, and pepsters Lynne Kennedy, Louise Dornath, Aida Rivera, Alice Hammer, Karla Kalbus and Sandra Schmidt for the clever new routines they used this year. The pepsters wore blue sweaters, socks, and culottes, white dickies and shoes for football season. a 64 ■M i J,S Diane Owens, Iris Brower and Yvonne Frieberg formed this exceptionally peppy trio. The yell-leaders were always on hand to liven up pep assemblies, rallies and games with many new routines. Red culottes and sweaters, white dickies and shoes were worn for football season. (!) X'Jr • 65 This year the Pep Club was minimized to 15 junior and senior girls. Their uniforms are navy blue. The girls publicize games, help with pep assemblies, back the yell-leaders and team and attend all games. Jane Doyle, and Lois McCuskey. lima Lehmanowsky OFFICE Paula Cook Working in the main office are: Sharon Ansley, Wilma Counts. Dorothy Huffman, and Helen Hester. Arlene Barzee is not in the picture. FOOTBHl QllEEII Even though hampered by injuries, this year's football team, under the excellent handling of Tony Ashenbrener showed great improvement over past seasons. The new system, which was composed of single wing and T offense, was in contrast to what the team had been running in the past; however, there seemed to be no difficulty in the team's ability to master this new technique. In addition to learning a new and different game of football, the team also learned much about sportsmanship and wholesome team participation. Although we won only four of the nine games played this year, we feel that we have a team to be proud of.
