Quartet LEFT TO RIGHT: Bessie Patt, Janice Whitmore, Claryce Humphreys, and Donna Swinney. MYRTLE CREEK BAND The Myrtle Creek High School Band of 47 members went to work immediately on marching practice at the beginning of the year. Besides playing for all home games, the band also made two trips,' one to Oakland and one to Sutherlin. Junior Joins the Band was featured at the half-time show for the homecoming game. On December 19, a Christmas concert was given at the gym in which the band played a big part. A favorite selection was the Nutcracker Suite by Tschaikowsky. Myrtle Creek was host to a band clinic on February 28, in which the bands of Canyonville, Douglas, Glendale, Riddle, and Myrtle Creek participated. The clinic was conducted by Phi Mu Alpha -society of the University of Oregon, and Mr. Ira Lee, direc- tor of marching bands at the University. In the spring an exchange concert was given at Canyonville High School. A colorful selection played at this time was In a Persian Market by Albert Ketelbey. Solo and ensemble participants went to the music contest at Ashland in March. The band took part in the music contest at Eugene in April. The band together with the glee club presented a spring concert towards the close of the school year. 48
