Although the weather conditions have limited outside workouts this year, a regular turn out 1.1 forty-five track prospects has been running in the gym every night in preparation for several home track meets. At this writing the Viks have scored decisive victories over Sutherlin. Glendale and Douglas. Only strong Roseburg dents the Viks win record. The interest in the sport has doubled over last year, and the enthusiasm shown by the Freshmen and Sophomores has been especially pleasing, So far three school records have been broken and several marks have been challenged. Wayne Bartley jumped 5' 6 g Bill Pachmayr ran the 880 yrrd run in 2 minutes and 15 seconds for two new records: and Harold Ruebush tossed the platter 126 feet 9 inches for ancther record. He also has thrown the javelin over 145 feet. Pole vaulter Greg Bowman has come close to breaking the school record of 10 feet 2 inches set by himself last year. He has vaulted 10 feet 2 in-ches and in warm weather possibly will go as high as 11 feet. Eldon Naas will also welcome warm weather as he must cut down 5 seconds for a new mark in the mile run, which stands at 4 minutes 56 seconds. Besides Wayne Bartley in the high jump event, Paul Hatcher. Cedric Stumpges, and Richard Geer have all jumped 5 feet 4 inches. Wayne Bartley and Bruce Winter have both run to first place in high hurdles. Bruce also has placed in the low hurdles, John Bardwell has been a point grabber in the low hurdles and broad jump. The weight boys. Harold Ruebush. Richard Geer, Darrel Hadley, and Melven Mortenson have scored their sbare of points. Veteran Ray Froehlich and Lehman Myatt, a novice this year, ran the 440 yard dash. The sprinters are Jim Henry. Leo Barge, Robert Stephens and David Doud. Other boys who have pushed the experience point winners and sometimes have scored points them- selves are Alfred Thompscn, Dick Naas, Ed Payne, Ed Geer, Ed Hedberg, Stan Bennett, Tcm Bryant and Gary Rees. Judging from 'the improved general interest of the students. and the enthusiasm shown by the large number of participants who either entered competition or were beginners this year, the success of Track looks better for Myrtle Creek High School. wwnafg
