The Myrtle Creek Vikings have completed another successful basketball season, winning 19 games and losing 6. These players showed a great determination in their will-to-win attitude by winning ll games in succession. On several occasions they had to come from behind against teams possessing more natural ability. The Viks won a Co-Championship in the newly formed Umpqua League with a 7 win l loss record and placed second in the Sub-District 5 tournament, losing to Roseburg in the last quarter of the final game. In non-conference games the team de- feated Roseburg, Ashland, Myrtle Point, Drain, Coquille, Madras, Willamina and Creswell. Leading scorers were Paul Hatcher with 293 points, followed by John Losey and Eldon Naas with 236 and 190 points respectively. Two guards, Jim Graf and Junior Cavaner, turnefl in sparkling performances in play making. Unfortunately, Veteran Rollie LeVasseur was side- lined during' most of the year with a knee injury. John Losey shot a very creditable 51'? ol' field goal attempts. On several occasions, John Bardwell's accurate passes to John Losey sparked the team. The teamwork shown between these two boys should be crowd pleasing next season. With Eldon Naas returning as a leader next year, the Viking squad could perhaps enjoy another successful season, not alone from a won and loss column but more important in the development oi' the boys to become better citizens.
