Cafeteria The Myrtle Creek school cafeteria is performing noteworthy service toward filling noon meal demands ol' children in the district. To date the project has its financial statement in the black. From the first of school until Christmas vacation a total of 28,208 meals were served through the cafeteria kitchen. That number includes the food taken to Tri-City and served there. Total receipts amount to 310,202.62 with total expenses for food and labor S10,,11I3.14. The cafe- teria has a paid-up inventory on hand of 3645.52 in food and supplies. The balance will pay for gas for cooking' and janitor service. The Financial statement is gratify- ing' to the board ol' education, whice de- ,H in cided the cafeteria should be on a sell'- If supporting' basis. With children eating there on a voluntary basis, it was felt that only those eating there should pay. The cafeteria receives some govern- ment aid. Surplus commodities are also purchased lor a low figure - usually the shipping' costs. To receive the aid, free meals must be given to needy children. Twelve to 17 free meals are served per day. The largest number of meals served on any one day was 810, the number eating a turkey dinner there bel'ore vacation.
