Jr. and Sr. High Principals : In June, 1987, selected members of the Class of 1987 will receive a program entitled ‘‘Commencement Exercises. The word, ‘‘commencement,” often causes some confusion, and perhaps it is right and proper to clear up that confusion. We know that the root of that word is commence,” which means to start or to begin. The definition is very appropriate to the exercises as well as to your Senior year. You have not completed your education, but in fact, have just started it. Your formal education, for the past thirteen years, was not designed to prepare you to end or conclude a portion of your life, but it was to prepare you to begin a new life. As a consequence. you have assumed many rights and privileges, but with graduation, you have also assumed many awesome responsibilities. Among these responsibilities is to use your education to assist in the resolution of the inequalities among mankind. For without the aforementioned, all material gams and job-related successes are nothing. After graduation I will greet you not as a student in our school, but as a citizen of the world. It is my hope and prayer for everyone in the Class of 1987 that your pathway may be straight and true and that your destination may be golden with happiness and alive with vibrant promise. Gerald Macaluso Principal Throughout your school years you have examined the past, pondered the future, and most importantly, experienced the present. These experiences, whether joyful or tragic, have become a significant part of your lives. You may learn from history, or imagine new possibilities, but you must exist within the events of today. As you begin the next phase of your lives, remember that although circumstances may become complex, you have the knowledge, understanding, and self-discipline to face new challenges. And, in confronting these challenges-be they mental or physical, professional or emotional-remember to trust your own abilities. You all have the skills and natural talent to help you succeed. Messages From Our Devoted To The Class of 1987 The headlines of today show national budget problems, star wars defense questions, and ecological changes • all of the modern-day world you are about to enter. Some of you will have more education in your future while others will soon take your place in the nation’s work force. Mynderse Academy has tried to prepare you for your entrance into this adult world, but your education will continue each day with living experiences. Continue to strive for your personal best, contributing as much as you are able. Tomorrow's headlines will be changed by the action of your generation. You graduate with my personal best wishes for a happy productive future. Good luck. Vincent Caraccilo Assistant Principal To The Class Of 1987 Unfortunately, you are graduating into a world so full of life-threatening evils that your future is threatened to the utmost. Daily, you are bombarded by the media bringing to your attention the never-ending acts of terrorism, increased usage of illegal drugs which often leads to death for the user, and last, but not least, the super powers’ arms race featuring atomic weaponry. However, your future will be in your hands. You must go forward, from the day you graduate from Mynderse Academy, to become all that you are capable of becoming. Then, and only then, will you be able to assume a leadership role in helping to bring about peaceful and everlasting solutions to the dangers that threaten your very existence.
