Graduates you are passing into another very important stage in your development. All of the recent attention given to the current state of education, indicates “getting by” or doing the minimum is no longer acceptable to do well in your future life. Many of you will go through periods of retraining as society moves rapidly into the information age; a time when large scale use of computer technology will reorder priorities. To make a difference, you must prove yourself to be more valuable than an instrument of technology, more flexible than any of your counterparts, and more aware of the importance of family relationships within a less personal world. The Board of Education, the faculty, the administrative and supportive staff wish you every success as you proceed towards fulfilling your goals. Douglas Zoller snior torus le of Contents Theme. This teacher’s intelligence, devotion, and enthusiasm made learning an enjoyable as well as informative process. His lively classroom presentations and deep involvement in the subject matter add to making his classes exciting and valuable learning experiences. Continually staying involved with community and school activities add to the dedication this individual shows. With this and many other things in mind, we the Class of 1985 proudly dedicate the 60th edition of the MYNDERSIAN to Mr. Walter Gable 7 I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Class of 1985. I consider it a honor and privilege to have been associated with you. I hope that in whatever endeavors you partake, you will reflect on your years at Mynderse, and take advantage of your learning experiences. Hopefully, the educational experiences you have gained at Mynderse Academy will assist you in your role to be a positive influence on the society in which you are entering. Your association with Mynderse has been a positive asset for you and the school, and as a result of this association both you and Mynderse have benefited. Again my sincere congratulations, best wishes, and good luck always. Anthony J. Ferrara Assistant Principal Thomas Wolfe believed, and some people seem to agree, that “you can’t go home again.” When something is over, somehow it seems unable to be recaptured at least in the way in which we would like to recall “the way we were” or what might have been. Try to remember that high school is not a place for regrets, not a spot where life slides us by; it is a place where students are not just a part of its vitality; they are its life. As you have been involved with your classmates — participated in the school’s many, varied activities — continued that involvement with community events, never say that civic responsibility is for someone else, because, just as you and your companions were the only reasons why the Academy stands, you and your companions are the reasons for tomorrow’s world. May you continue to strive to make the world a better place and to achieve success and happiness for yourself. G. Macaluso Principal TO THE CLASS OF 1985 As you prepare to graduate reflect on your time here at Mynderse. Each of you has made a contribution to your school. Whether large or small, your contribution is now a part of Mynderse history. This history grows each year with its graduating class. As you begin the next phase of your life, let your time at Mynderse be only the beginning. Let yourself grow to be all you are capable of being. Best wishes for your future. Vincent Caraccilo Assistant Principal “Face the music” is a common maxim that has been a part of our language for many years. Its meaning is simple and direct. When you “face the music” you are confronted with the consequences that result from your actions, whether they be good or bad. Soon you will be ending your four year course of study here at Mynderse Academy and, suddenly, the first day of the rest of your life will be upon you. What you have done during the past four years will help determine your future. If you have put forth a good effort and used your capabilities to their fullest, then you are off to a good start down the road leading into your future life. If you have not put forth a good effort and have let your capabilities lay dormant, now is the time to “face the music,” accept the consequences, and to start applying yourself to ensure a successful future for yourself. In closing, it has been my pleasure to have been associated with you during the past few years, and I wish each of you God’s speed and the best of everything that life has to offer. Row 2: Pres. Judy Park, Sec. Kathy Pacelli. Our senior year in high school is supposed to be one of the most memorable years of our life and a time when members of the class become very close. The Class of 1985 has needed the time to grow together and learn from each other’s mistakes. Through the years, we have worked hard to prove that we are a united class, and a class that can accomplish many goals. Each one uf us will leave the familiar surroundings of Mynderse Academy with memories of friends and events that made us laugh and cry together and, in doing so, will look ahead with aspirations for the future. 1 wish the best of luck to all members of the Class of 1985 and hope that everyone succeeds in making their dreams become reality. Row 2: Marty Burgie, Treasurer, Jeff Herron, Vice-President, John Manzari, President. When one looks toward his or her junior year, one views it with great anxiety. The junior year is a student’s most important year in terms of scholastic and athletic achievements. This is also the time when one begins to look toward the path he or she wishes to pursue in life. Thus, one tends to view their junior year as a year of heavy schedules and hard work. We, the Class of ’86, have been able to overcome this fear through our prevailing power of unity. We have continuously been working together to overcome any obstacles in our journey toward success. Therefore, we will remember this year because of the intense effort which we have put forth. In your years, you have endured many changes and watched and helped many of us grow. We, the Class of 1985, will sincerely miss you and regret that future classes will never know the Miss “B” we all knew — an always-caring, dedicated teacher forever striving to bring out the best in each individual. As we graduate, we know that Mynderse Academy will never be quite the same without you. The Class of 1985 55 Sophomore Class Officers Row 1: Treasurer Kelly Vogt, Vice-Pres. Eileen Porto. Row 2: Pres. Matt Sipos, Sec. Shelby Journell. The Class of 1987 has been working very well together during this school year. We were very successful on the candy sale and on our candle sale. Our class worked hard on our float this year. We had a lot more participation and we were very proud of the float that was built. Everyone learned that because of class dedication and involvement, we can accomplish what we set out to do. We have begun to make decisions this year concerning our future and realize that our accomplishments will have a great influence on our lives from now on. Hopefully each year we will grow stronger together to be a fantastic senior class in 1987. Your Sophomore President, Matt Sipos HR 40: Row 1: C. Agnello, C. Amidon. N. Brady, L. Cammelio, J.Baxter. Jon Vorreuter, Vice-Pres. Jennifer Willower. Row 2: Sec. Jennifer. Kuplinski, Treasurer Mike Constable The beginning of our freshmen year has proved to be of interest and excitement for all. We are finding that we must all work together as a group in order to get things accomplished. By doing so, this year has brought us closer. So far this year we have completed two fund raisers and a dinner prior to open house. These have proved to be very successful and profitable. The freshmen class is very lucky to have an advisor who is as helpful as Mrs. Pine. Whenever there is a problem, it seems Mrs. Pine always takes care of it. The freshman class is grateful that our advisor is always there when we need her. We the class of ’88 would like to wish the senior class the best of luck and good fortune. We look forward to following in their footsteps and regret the day when we must leave Mynderse and move on in life. We will cherish our fond memories. We were extremely young and inexperienced, but had much more depth than 1983. We ended the season without a win. However, two teams we were able to compete with dropped their programs just prior to the season. Our young men did a fine job with almost all our scorers being underclassmen. We look forward to an improved 1985 season. We are slowly moving back toward the powerful teams of past. Time Will Tell! 93 J.V. Varsity Baseball a a. J.V. BASEBALL: Row 1: R. McMillen, B. Cross country runners hear their own rasping breathing, the pounding of their blood in their head, the monotonous, crunching rhythm of their own footsteps and a little voice asking maddening questions: “Three more miles, only three more miles, spaghetti legs, and then you can rest.” “Just one more hill, now, one more hill. Are you gonna quit? Com on, lie to your legs, tell them just a little further, just a little bit further and then we’ll lie down.’’ Why, then ever run? Why punish and force your body to do all these things before a crowd that is about the same size as one attending an act of hari-kari? Well, cross country runners will tell you, when you run you get to know yourself, the hard way. You run and you get tired and you get a second wind and then pretty soon you’re just going on guts and you’re making yourself do things you never thought you could, and then it gets even tougher. And when you feel like you’ve had the spit kicked out of you, well then it’s almost euphoric. 99 J.V. Varsity Football ◄ a a. J.V. FOOTBALL: Row 1: D. Green, S. Herron, P. Elyseev, E. Caraccilo, J.
