Too often, like Gatsby, we tend to spend so much of our lives “in between time;” a foot in the past, a glance to the future. Others will say, sometines cynically, that there are really only two good places — where we’ve been and where we’re going. I would like to think that somehow your years at Mynderse Academy provided a striking four-year moment where, in a sense, time stood still, clocks froze, past and future blended somehow, but only to heighten the bittersweet things one lives through at that time, in that place. If we, the faculty, and you, our graduates, have touched each other, even slightly, with a little sentiment and a bit of intellect and a lot of wisdom, then all of our lives are ever so enriched by just having known one another. As you leave high school, try to remember the feeling of friendship which drifts out of that sensitive little allegory, Jonathon Liuingston Seagull: But overcome space, and all we have left is Here. Overcome time, and all we have left is Now. And in the middle of Here and Now, don’t you think that we might see each other once or twice? Gerald Macaluso Principal Nobody has ever been able to say exactly what life is, because it is not the same for any two people. Perhaps that’s because life means a number of opposite things. It means fact and it means fantasy. It is as tangible as a football and as intangible as a frosty morning. It is competition, composure; happiness, sorrow; and anticipation. In today’s world it is something in more different ways to more people than it has ever been. In America today, a good life is not just a dream, it is a reality for those with goals and a willingness to work to achieve and excel. I hope your life after graduation will be a “Good Life.” David M. Geitner Assistant Principal 4

In this age of uncertainty, the importance of being optimistic and displaying a positive attitude is paramount for graduates to meet the problems and challenges of life beyond formal schooling. Our country’s history is rich with those who refused to let defeat serve as a permanent setback in their lives. They pass through their defeats and their lows by generating an attitude of positivism and the ability to see good things around them. Keep ever mindful the contributions of your family and the Mynderse faculty over the last several years. Hopefully, we have developed a sense of pride in what you have accomplished. The Board of Education and I wish you every success on the road ahead. M. Douglas Zoller Superintendent of Schools M. To the Class of ’83 Only a short time ago you began your education and now you are about to graduate. Some of you will go on to further education, but a great number of you students will immediately enter your life’s work. In your years at Mynderse Academy we have attempted to start you with a good foundation, hoping that with the proper start, you will go on and have great success. In closing, I wish to commend you on a job well done, and wish you the best in whatever field of endeavor you may select. Dominic Paradise, Assistant Principal Director of Athletics To the Members of the Class of ’83 1983 marks the end of your high school years. It should also be the beginning of a new adventure for you. Whether a college, the service, or a job is in your future, I trust Mynderse Academy has given you a base on which to build your life experience. The foundation is finished.
