1 2 4 Dedication In July of 1966 a man of great intelligence, compassion, and patience entered Mynderse Academy, becoming a solemn guardian to all who attended their high school years here. He has earned much respect from both teachers and students through his many hours of work that he has given so freely. For this we extend our deepest appreciation. With all this in thought; we the Class of 1982, proudly dedicate the 57th edition of the Myndersian to... Mr. David Rice 5 The Board of Education Bottom Row: Gloria Paris. Marilyn Bero, Herbert R. Holden. D.V.M., Peter Same. Row 1: Matthew C. Gallina. Marie Midey. Rick Kuempel. John Pannucci. Missing: Anthony Petroccia. Members of the Class of 1982 I hope you have found your schooling at Mynderse Academy has been more than formal learning. I feel even more secure if you understand, as a result of your education, the significance of what follows. There has been much dialogue concerning the future and what it holds for the American family. One needs only examine the statistics to see that there is a soaring in the divorce rate, an increase in violence within the family unit. I contend that should the institution of family and church lose their significance, we will see the cohesiveness of our society become unglued. I ask each graduate to reflect upon all your family unit has provided for you over the last thirteen years and make a determination that the family is a crucial part of your life. As you leave this more secure phase of your life, I would urgently request you to the concept of family in your future plans. The Board of Education, the Mynderse faculty and I wish you every success as you take your first step toward independence. We hope your steps lead you toward fulfillment of your dreams and the dreams of those around you. Mr. Douglas Zoller Superintendent of Schools Whatever years are alloted to each of us, no one ever knows ahead of time; that is one of the “sweet mysteries” of life. One thing is certain, however. When a moment passes by it is gone forever, and nothing can recall it. So it is with the years in High School, which for our seniors, are only memories now. For some, these remembrances are tender and warm; for others they are bland, neutral, perhaps even colorless. In Shakespeare’s words, however, “What’s done cannot be undone.” Nevertheless, there is a large-looming future awaiting all of you which ought to be seized aggressively, so that your lives will be filled with time well-spent and years well-lived. Take the future and let it be yours; make the world and your place in it what they ought to be. G. Macaluso Principal Members of the Class of 1982 ‘That man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who leaves the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem or a rescued soul; who never lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had.” Author Unknown The above poem describes attributes which are not necessarily learned from a textbook. In the years you have spent at Mynderse Academy, I hope you have gained more than knowledge of material. Attending school should have been a life experience; experiences that will make you a positive contributor to society. As you leave Mynderse on Commencement Day, I hope you will accept the challenge of your new life, that you are able to say to yourself that you were a “success,” that you will strive to give the best you have to your fellow man. David M. Geitner Assistant Principal Message to Class of 1982 Congratulations to the Class of 1982. You have completed your high school education. Important as this achievement is, we hope you won’t feel it represents the ultimate in education. Rather, it should represent a stepping-stone to greater things. You should remember that life itself can be a “learning process,” once one is equipped with the tools of learning. Whether you go on to higher educational fields, or into a trade or training school, or to a job, keep this objective in mind — that you should continue to learn, to grow, to enlarge your capacity for service by your all-around development and achievement. From exp|oratjons and at the end of our exploring arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. T. S. Eliot We, the Senior Class, owe a great deal to each and every faculty member here at M.A. The knowledge and values obtained here will carry on throughout our lives and will be used for the benefit of our future society. We all look at our past high school years, along with the endless array of experiences and achievements fulfilled, as stepping stones to but another beginning. These years at M.A. have promoted within us all an intense attitude of determination. We now foresee that it is necessary to find ourselves by seeking personal goals and exploring new and different situations with strong remembrances of M.A. as the inspirational motive. We may all be leaving M.A. with different ideals, aspirations, and pursuits but no matter how far we travel from our alma mater, we will always have the pleasant memories of who we were: The Senior Class of 1982; and this, we will always have in common. 13 David Ludd Senior Class President of 1982 a5L Joanne Carol Agnello Peter Joseph Bellomo Nadine Marie Beretta James David Bethke Richard Stanley Blong Mitchel Kane Booth Stephen Scott Brennan William Lee Budd Pansy Jane Caldwell Laurie Ann Capaldi Jeffrey Alfred Brewer Kenneth Lee Brown 16 Joseph Robert Cosentino Heidi Ann Costley Heidi Cramer Bernardino Cuccari Melissa Jane Cunningham Wendy Ann Dean John Arthur DeSanto Robert Riig Curtis Marie Teresa DeSarro Adam Richard Dickson 17 Stephen Joseph DiPasquale 18 19 Jorundur Hansen Michael James Harrington William Charles Hughes Kathleen Anne Johnson Margaret Marie Haust Robert Arthur Hill, Jr. Karen Ann Ingianni Scott Alan Johnson Sheila Louis Hayes Kimberly Dawn Holcomb Kim Marie Ingianni Stephen Thomas Jones 21 Edward Michael Journell James Andrew Kendall Jeffery Todd Kent Laura Therese Kilbane Amelie Kabberich Annette Marie Kelsey 22 Amy Elizabeth Kuykendall Deborah Ann Lapp Brian Thomas Laude Michael Joseph Lawler Elaine Ann Leonard Paul Anthony Kuplinski Mary Kathleen Kreutter George Eugene Loche James Christopher Andrew Lorenzetti Michael Paul Lohr Ann Rita Lorenzetti David Lawrence Ludd Michael Howard Madziarz 24 Mark Joseph Martell Tina Marie McBride Deborah Ann Elizabeth Martarella Patricia Carol McDermott 25 James Edward McElligott Frederick James Mellini David Edward Miller Teresa Osso Jill Marie Meyers John Crawford Mitchell Kenneth Richard Paradise 26 Amelia Ann Pedulla William Richard Phillips 27 Carola Marie Porretta Mary Elizabeth Porto Robert Francis Prayne Lydia Jean Puhak Joanne Marie Rice Toni Marie Roberti Darryl Todd Saunders Nancy Jane Shaw Stephen James Siegfried Karen Ann Smith 29 Lisa Marion Smith Michael David Smith Mona Lynn Smith Tracy Ann Smith Lucinda Ann Smitka Karen Lee St. Germaine Christopher K. Brown, V. Pres. M. Foster. Row 1: Sec. Sh. Fineco. Treas. J. Bradshaw. This past year all students in the class of 1983 had within themselves the potential and ambition to gain knowledge and experience through the good and bad times we have shared together. Being a Junior has been one of the most difficult years we have had to face, both academically and in our individual growth. We have proven with hard work and effort that we've got what it takes to be a strong class. As we look toward our Senior year and the many decisions we will be making, let us keep in mind that life is like a puzzle, and with careful planning all the pieces will fall into place. 54 Good Luck to the Class of ‘82 Amy Brown Junior Class President 56 - a. They were modeling a real state government in every way from a state senate to assassination attempts on the governor. They developed a better idea of what government is all about, but most of all they met many new and different friends. This was an experience that they will always remember. Anonymous Oliver The Mynderse Academy stage glowed while more than 100 students brought to life the musical production of Oliver.” Oliver is the story of a young orphan who, through his many scandalous adventures (and complicated scenes), manages to obtain loving parents. Brian Bishop, a fourth grader, played a very believable Oliver while senior, Sue Irland helped produce the romantic mood. The rest of the cast, too numerous to name, did indeed prove that the group who stays together well, plays together well. Many thanks must be given to the combined efforts of Director, Doug Avery; Musical Director, Jim Best; and the talented technical crews who assisted so closely and made the show such a success. 161 Homecoming ’81 Homecoming, Nov. 7,1981, was a great success. The song theme was “Freebird” and the decoration theme was “Come Sail Away.” Representing the football team as King was Scott Fineco and the queen was Ann Caraccilo. We honored the football team and cheerleaders of 1956. The theme of the float competition was commercials, which was won by the Sophomore Class. The dance went very well and many people attended. The play was directed by Miss Virginia Everett. She kept up a lively pace for all the cast members, as well as for the audience. The leads were portrayed by Marcia Caraccilo, who played “Lisa,” a schizophrenic; and David Warren, who played “David,” a mentally unstable child. They become attracted to each other and end up sharing a warm relationship. The two leads, plus the rest of the cast, deserve three cheers for a performance successfully accomplished. a. Party Time! 164 Even with 7Vi months of hard work and fundraising, 60 hours on a bus, 8 chaperones, 7 rehearsals a week and constantly being with many of your friends for the entire week, we still managed to have a fantastic time! We owe much to Mr. Avery for spending so much time in preparing the music and helping us in numerous ways — also, to the faculty and student body for their support. Between the concerts were visits to Washington, D.C., Disney World, Wet and Wild, Sea World, a swim at Cocoa Beach and much, much more, which left us without a minute’s rest. Washington, D.C. 167 168 Future Fortunes Aries graduates will enjoy the initial freedom from routine but will soon grow bored unless a job or activity is found which is challenging and competitive, such as: a New York city cop, a T.V. reporter in Central America, a stuntperson or safari guide. For those who are still school bound, the challenge of academic achievement can still be exciting, especially in those areas requiring initiative and snap decisions or physical energy. If possible sign up for skydiving or alligator wrestling but avoid nineteenth century English poets. For the year ahead planetary transits are concentrated in those areas involving relationships with others and new experiences which lead, hopefully, to growth and intellectual development. You are most apt to come into conflict with authority this year. The Aries method of settling disputes is usually brute force first and compromise as a last resort. This year will show you the wisdom of reversing this method. Long trips, a change of residence or an exciting intellectual challenge are in store for you this year. Be ready to take advantage of sudden opportunities but don't let idealism blind you to reality. If invited to go along In the Voyager, take your homework with you, it’s a long trip. Always interested in financial security graduating Taureans will make a determined effort to find jobs which promise a guaranteed paycheck. Conventional to the core, you will persist in a search for a job or mate that will establish you as a stable, reliable adult. An occupation involving money will draw you like a magnet: treasurer of anything, cashier at any place, banker, coin collector, counterfeiter, Las Vegas hotel owner. If you're still at Mynderse or headed for college, no doubt you’re already well into a business or math major. The Taurean mind enjoys finding a comfortable rut and staying there, so college and career choosing will occupy most of your attention. An old, traditional, conservative institution is what you need. Oxford University will do just fine even if your Regent's scholarship doesn’t apply. The planetary transits for this year emphasize long-range planning and financial investment. While a bit young to plan an IRA account you might consider David Stockman’s job; it'll be open in a year or so. You could balance the budget. With a flair for talk and travel, you graduating Geminis will be heading for the thruway even before the parties begin. Versatile and curious, you'll no doubt have five different jobs before the year is up, finding that work which is tedious or monotonous is not for you. Since you are able to talk your way into almost anything, finding a job won’t be a problem, but keeping it might because of your need for change and variety. You might consider two part-time jobs or one that involves a change of scene and lots of talk: subpoena server, cab driver, or Dan Rather’s standin. For undergrads or college bound, class discussion rather than research papers are your interest, so take as many speech and drama courses as possible and avoid the Sciences unless you’re up to interviewing monkeys. The year ahead will emphasize entertainment, creativity and sudden new friendships. Maybe you’ll meet Miss Piggy while covering the Muppet Show for T. V. Guide. p a? Lancer Graduation may not be the best thing that ever happens to Cancer natives, as you tend to dislike leaving anything which has become safe and familiar. Well, familiar anyway. It’s unlikely you’ll leave your home town if forced to find work, and Cancer Girls have the highest marriage rate of any sign. You’ll do well at any job which values taking care of something: baby sitter, nurse, social worker, museum curator, duster of knick-knacks... If still in school or going to college, the fields of Home Ec, Hotel Management and History are good for you. Good at sentimentalizing the good-old-days, you might begin planning your ten-year class reunion early. This year’s transiting planets indicate unexpected work opportunities but some concern about impending change and leaving home. Moodiness will increase along with an urge to remember what has passed. So carry extra kleenex and your diary with you at all times .. . maybe you’ll write a best seller called Memories of Mynderse. 169 Super-charged graduating Leos head for any position carrying a promise of publicity and scope for showing off. There are few thrones to be had these days, but as zodiac royalty you might settle for being the center of attention in a lesser kingdom; i.e. boss, actor, head lifeguard, court jester. If your education is continuing, your leadership traits have probably already been noticed as a class officer, wit or brain. You Leos who are off to college should try to major in drama or managerial programs or those which allow your natural enthusiasm to reign. A semester at Miami U learning water-skiing or a season at London’s Academy of Dramatic Arts learning how to act like a piece of frying bacon would sharpen your talents. The year ahead suggests creative effort and romantic appeal (but someone else's, so be wary). It also indicates travel and a tendency to dominate. Be careful who you tell off. Graduating Virgo girls usually want to be someone’s secretary as much as other zodiac women want to be married. All Virgos make excellent analysts of all kinds and have large appetites for meticulous detail and creating order from chaos. Neat, clean, and modest, you could make a career of being boy girl scout or. failing that, a Lysol salesman. Virgos make good students because of their ability to analyze and assimilate facts in an orderly manner. Generally quiet, classroom exhibition isn’t for you; rather, any line of study requiring long hours of research and focus. Yet, you are capable of over-doing concentration and need to balance study with some form of relaxation like ironing, scrubbing or figuring tax returns. This year brings an emphasis on earning money and perhaps moving. Conservative investments have the green light as do changes in living arrangements. Try camping this summer; you can always take the Lysol with you. Always interested in beauty and harmony, you graduating Libras will spend part of the year painting watercolors or ohhing and ahhing over beautiful scenery. You’ll seek jobs where being charming is a necessity. Maybe you could sell something, or sing something, or dress a store window. Libras still in school like the classroom give-and-take and hate to study alone. College courses aimed at preparing you for life in the public sphere where relationships are stressed and personality sells will be good for you. The fields of Art are also Libra ones. The Sistine Chapel has already been done, but you could do wonders with the Mynderse Senior High Lobby. The transits this year give importance to self-improvement, travel and the area of communications and suggests you back up that charm with intelligence. Graduating Scorpios probably know exactly what they'll be doing for the next ten years. You have an intense sense of purpose and don’t make a move until you can be in control. You'll be happiest when convinced work is really important; anything trivial is not for you. You’ll do well managing other people’s money. Permanent residence on Wall Street would suit you fine. You have a healthy respect for power and plan to get your share of it (and maybe someone else’s). Study which involves research and contemplation is most interesting to Scorpios, as are most forms of mental discipline. Probing the hidden is a Scorpio trait. Seneca Falls may not need a private investigator or five-star General, but you could part-time as the Jack Anderson of the Reveille. This year stresses self-contemplation and financial planning for the future. This doesn’t mean making fifties in your basement because you've an itch to be rich. 170 Graduating Sagittarians don't stick around long because a natural restless curiosity keeps them on the move. A Sagittarian job must provide freedom, travel, mental challenge and, if possible, fresh air. If it provides a horse or fast car, even better. Generally, Sagittarians don’t enjoy the confinement of school, but if the subject is challenging or broad enough, you'll stick it out. The Sagittarian intellect has a huge appetite but tends to overlook details. You do best In subjects which allow for exploration and which do not lean too heavily on restrictive discipline. It would be ideal if you could attend class on a motorcycle or take a degree in rapid-shooting on the Colorado River. Several plants are aspecting your individual personality this year, indicating a time to cool your characteristic exaggeration and develop responsibility. Hang gliding won’t pay the rent. Graduating Aquarians seek to explore the world and befriend everyone in it. Joining the Peace Corps is a particularly Aquarian thing to do, as is going to California on a Moped. Personal independence is of supreme importance to you, and any job you take will either have to be temporary in order to support future independence or be so exciting as to nourish It. Dull routine is not for you. no matter the salary. If it were possible to be educated by computer, Aquarians would stay in school forever, as their inquisitive minds constantly seek new information; It’s the structure and restriction of education that irritates restless Aquarians. Yet, if you are college bound, you'll do well in programs which utilize modern techniques — computers, T.V., pilots, politics, space travel. Transiting planets will be affecting your understanding of the larger world either from travel or intellectual growth. You are apt to become concerned with the larger social order this year and become interested in groups seeking change and reform. Aquarian Presidents have always led the country in a different direction, but you’ll have to wait a few years for your turn. Graduating Capricorns do best In jobs requiring slow, steady, persistent work and little conversation. Capricorns like working for established secure businesses and are willing to start at the bottom and work up. Since long-range ambition is very important, you won’t waste time on a job that has no future. Education is valued highly by the Capricorn, as it fits into plans of ambition. Your mind is extremely rational and serious, and emotion is seldom allowed to interfere with mental discipline. Any career training which is long on objectivity and action and short on emotion and sociability is for you. You could head the CIA or dig rocks from the ground or balance the U.S. budget. The planetary transits this year are urging you to plan for your future and play your hunches ... after careful deliberation, of course. Graduating Pisceans will try to find jobs or activities where their moods matter; where sensitivity and emotion play a large part. You could be a psychic and unhaunt houses, or dance your way through life a la Gene Kelly. Factory work is out because of the noise level, and there isn’t the call for hermits there used to be. If you could become a movie star, you wouldn't have to face reality at all. For the Piscean still in school or scheduled to go to college, take heart, you're almost through. Pisceans don’t take to discipline or routine, and order is a completely alien trait. The subjects most easily tolerated are Open-Form Romantic Poetry, Healing By Color, or, Music as a Lifestyle. Try to avoid Virgo teachers and anything requiring rationality, and stay out of the Army. The planets are influencing those areas of your life which involve other people’s money, encounters of a romantic kind and growing up. This is not the year to hide from the world and sulk.
