SWH With fond and fanciful memories, we, the Class of 1980, dedicate our Myndersian to Mr. Stephen Hackman. TO THE CLASS OF 1980 As Mynderse graduates, you are passing into the next important phase of your life. You are about to enter into a society filled with challenge and opportunity. What you do with your lives from this point forward will determine not only your personal self-fulfillment, but the general wellbeing of those who will interact with you. There is only one other thing we would ask of you ... never be caught up in yourself... or believe you are a self-made person. Each of you are made up of thousands of others. Everyone who has done a kind deed for you, or spoken one word of encouragement to you, has entered into the makeup of your character and of your thoughts, as well as your success. I hope that you come to realize the importance of the family unit in our society. The earlier in your life this occurs, the more gratifying life will be for you. We, the faculty, the Board of Education, the administration and supportive staff wish you every success on the road ahead. M. Douglas Zoller Superintendent of Schools BOARD OF EDUCATION Row 1: E. Lawrence, M. Bero, M. Gallina, R. Dombrowski. Row 2: H. Holden, P. Same, L. Andrews, A. Petrocci. TO THE CLASS OF 1980 Time has passed so quickly and what seemed to be an eternity, has passed. Here you are, the first graduating class of Mynderse Academy in the decade of the 1980's. You have the distinction of being the moving force that will lay the groundwork for th is decade both in your school, community and possibly the world. Reach out and make your contributions but always remember, He climbs highest who helps another up. I know from our experiences together that you have the potential and that you have the Mynderse Pride. Please use your potential to the fullest and you will never have to look back and say, I'm sorry. Each of you will go your own way but you all have a common bond and that is that you are a Mynderse Graduate. Mynderse Academy is yours and you are always welcome back. May all of your hopes, your dreams and your personal goals as an individual be fulfilled and may you always represent your school with dignity. As Ralph Waldo Emerson so rightly put it, The future belongs to those who prepare for it. May happiness be yours, John R. Markell TO THE CLASS OF 1980 Your days at Mynderse Academy will soon come to an end. I strongly hope that the experiences you have encountered educationally, socially and in your extracurricular interests have given you a solid foundation for the future. The real challenges of life still lie ahead of each and every one of you. As a class you have displayed a mature and responsible attitude in your role as leaders at M.A. You have made this year a very positive segment of my life, and I hope I have affected yours also in a positive way. As the Senior doors close for the last time, we, the Class of 1980 , are prepared to meet the challenges of a new world. It 1 seems like only yesterday we started our journey through high school, not knowing what the future would hold. Now that we have decided what we want to do with our lives, we are willing to pursue our future goals as responsible i individuals. We can finally begin to see a new mirror of reflections in our midst. I When the going gets rough and reality seems hard to grasp, the fond memories of Mynderse Academy will remain, only to light the way for a happy and prosperous future. We learned that we have many responsibilities both to others and to ourselves. Even though it was difficult I am sure we will look back fondly to our junior year after we have graduated. We only have one more year left and in that year I hope all the members of this class strive for their goals and eventually reach them while enjoying the whole year to its fullest. Because of our class dedication and active involvement we were able to accomplish this and many other projects. As well as being an indelible portion of our past this year will have a tremendous impact on our futures. The important decisions and preparations that we have begun to make as sophomores will greatly influence our outlook and purpose in life. Our sophomore year at Mynderse has been a memorable and important one, filled with meaningful friendships and significant events. We, the class of nineteen eighty-two, look confidently to the future and to the challenges of tomorrow. Joyce West President, Class of 1982 a. BOTTOM ROW: A. Marconi, Secretary. ROW 2:). Led by Carlo Frappolli's team leading 13 R.B.I.'s and school record 27 hits, the team came on strong in the closing weeks of the season, winning their last four ball games. Had the season been a bit longer, they would undoubtfully have rearranged the league standings. J.V. Baseball The J.V.'s, under coach Dave Farney had a very successful season in 2nd place with a record of 11-5. Student Council The most successful way for the Student Government to function is for both the Administration and student council to work together, not oppose each other. If this theory is exercised, more gets accomplished and the students gain more. The Student Government and Administration must work together in a partnership for the benefit of all the students. I think the relationship between the Administration and the 1979-1980 Student Council was a good one and was able to get a lot accomplished. Bradley j. Thanks to the American Legion, these young adults now fully understand the American capitalist machine. Boys' and Girls' State Ecology The Mynderse stage bloomed early in the spring to bring the light-hearted fairy tale Once Upon a Mattress to Seneca Falls audiences for three nights in March. When the clock struck eight, the Academy auditorium viewed this musical and whimsical event. The story was based on The Princess and the Pea and starred Frances Shipley as the princess. While audiences enjoyed the show, the cast members eagerly awaited the arrival of that week's Reveille to read Howard VanKirk's critique. The production was again directed by the dynamic young genius Doug Avery and choreographed by Donna Cerza. The combined efforts of cast, crew, orchestra and business staff led to a production that was enjoyed by all. The change in the date of the Senior Ball from mid-winter to April left the event unrecorded by the yearbook but not forgotten. The marathon fun fest began early in the evening and concluded the next morning with breakfast at the Elks. In between, they danced and partied their senior sorrows away. Highlights of the spring sports season included the first place league finish of the girls' varsity track team. Sheri Hatton broke records in the 440, a feat which sent her running to the state meet. The boys' varsity track team wound up the season with a 3-6 record, led by MVP Dave Herrick who broke his own records in the mile and two-mile. Things were bouncing quite well for the varsity tennis team as Kevin Kilbane and Scott Murdoch won the league tournament as a doubles team. The varsity lacrosse, softball, and baseball teams made valiant but futile efforts to cop titles and trophies for the Devil showcase. With another year of experience behind them, we looked forward to a more success-ridden 1980 season for all. Balmy spring weather prevailed once again as the sweet sound of music filled the air. Due to the whining of the downtown merchants, the parade route was changed and the judging area was moved to State Street. By the end of the second day's festivities, Marcus Whitman reigned as overall champ. With much help from the Seneca Falls Band Boosters, the event was a rousing success. Despite torrential rains, the Marching Blue Devils kept their spirits high and came home with a first place trophy from Prattsburg. Graduation 79 went off as a booming success. Amidst the fetid smoke of firecrackers, all Mynderse graduates and students bade vice-principal Rodger Lewis a fond farewell. Summer 79 had begun. The doors of M.A. opened early on September 4th to a bright new school year and a new Vice-Principal. Mr. David Geitner stood ready and waiting in a suit and tie, which was quite a switch from the old sweat pants and tee-shirts! In homeroom, students were surprised at the resurrection of that old school tradition, the Pledge of Allegiance. Student Council President Bradley Mitchell led us in this dramatic recitation because so many of us had forgotten the words. In tennis, M.A s own Chrissy Evert Anne Malone came in second in the section 5 tournament. This led her to the states, where she was narrowly defeated by Fairport's best. With encouragement and coaching from Mr. O'Loughlin, Lisa Polzinetti ran a remarkable season in cross-country and finished 9th in the states. Due to the sparseness of snow fluffies in winter '79-'80, the annual administration lectures on snowballing were few and far between, and snow days were, unfortunately, nonexistent. The mild winter didn't provide much snow for the M.A. schussers. Many of the skiers failed to notice as they had high spirits on the way to Creek Peak. The play Heaven Can Wait was a hard-earned and well-deserved success for seniors with latent thes-pian tendencies. It was directed by Robin Aronson, who donated part of her meager teacher's salary to contribute to the fund that paid Bill Bergamo to kiss Shari Bleiler. Unfortunately, not enough money could be raised to convince Tom Croker to kiss Laurie Ossman, or vice versa. January 5 the Varsity Cheering Squad won the tournament at Hannibal and won the honor of cheering at a Syracuse University game. Carla Caraccilo placed 2nd out of 17 girls in the senior girls' competition. The volleyball team went to the semi-finals in the sectionals, the farthest any girls' team has ever gone. The poetry and song lyrics classes put on their annual slide show January 18. Many themes were explored and visualized by the students, and the high quality of all the entries made the elimination process of choosing the best for presentation in the auditorium very difficult. Although there was only one live performance, a new dimension was added by Mr. Michael Daddy-o O'Loughlin's film on crosscountry running. After completing its first season of competition as Class C ICGA champions, the 1980 Mynderse colorguard moved to Class B and maintained its stature in the colorguard circuit.
