With much gratitude and respect, the Class of 1978 proudly dedicates the 53rd annual Myndersian to Mrs. Angela Krueger. 5 BOARD OF EDUCATION: Standing: Edward Lawrence. Harold Lind. Peter Same. Gary Young. John Pannucci Silting: Lawrence Andrews. Marilyn Bero. Matthew Gallina. E. Barry Bradshaw TO THE CLASS OF 78 It is usually during your last year that you realize high school is nearly over and very little time remains to do the many things you had planned. This becomes an opportune moment to pause and evaluate your present activities and make careful preparations for the future. The time spent with our schools and your fellow students will become only a small portion of your entire lifetime. Things you have accomplished as a student will have continued bearing on the direction of your adult life. Plan carefully, discuss your plans with friends, and continue to strive for self-improvement. Our best to you, the Class of 1978. William H. Phillips Superintendent of Schools 6 Making and enforcing rules always must he done in an environment where many people are involved. Although this is a very difficult job. both mentally and physically, occasionally it can be done in such a manner where a person maintains all honor and respect. Peter DeBottis is such a person. When Mr. DeBottis leaves in June with the Class of 78. not only will Mynderse Academy be losing a great principal, but a great man. So with much admiration, the Class of 1978 wishes Mr. Peter DeBottis much success and happiness in the years to come. 7 8 9 10 11 Class of 1978 M TO THE CLASS OF 1978 In the fall of 1975. you “The Class of '78.” entered Mynderse Academy for the final three years of your public school education. At that time. I started as principal of Mynderse Academy; therefore, you are the first class with which I have been closely associated throughout your three years in high school. Your theme, “A Rainbow of Memories.” is most appropriate for me, personally, because I plan to graduate with you. However, your careers will be starting while mine will be ending. As you look back over your fond and cherished memories upon which to reflect in; the years to come. For some of you, your memories will affect you nostalgically. After graduation, if you start your career with the same enthusiasm and dedication to the task before you, as you have shown during the past three years, success will be yours. I challenge each of you to use your God-given ability to its fullest. If you do. then, around the year 2012, when you are in the twilight years of your career, your “Rainbow of Memories” will be complete as you reflect back on a job well done. Congratulations to you. “Class of '78,” and may you all enjoy good health, happiness, and prosperity in the years ahead. Peter DeBottis Principal We have made it! Though, in starting our then seemingly long journey through high school in September of 1974. we were nervous. We thought we knew it all: however, it didn't take us long to realize how wrong we were. With the assistance of the administration, we learned to correct our ways. We regret that Mr. Peter DeBottis intends to retire from the school district, for others that follow us will miss his guidance. He has contributed greatly to our character development as well as to our academic development. The class of 1978 is proud and honored to have such an individual to guide them through the years. Now. as we reflect, the past four years didn’t seem so long or difficult. School was more than just formal learning. This time in our life was marked by challenges and experiences involving psychological as well as physiological development. Thusly. I would venture to say that Mynderse has and will continue to have a place in everyone's inner world. Can any senior really erase four years from his life? I can truly say as much as Mynderse had a place for us these past four years, we will have a place in our heart for Mynderse in the future. Even when walking through the dark valley of death I was not afraid, for You were close beside me. guarding, guiding all the way. You provide delicious food for me in the presence of my enemies. It was supposed to be a year when no team went undefeated; so much for that prediction! The Mynderse Academy Varsity Football Team really showed their stuff and went on to capture the Wayne Finger Lakes crown and ranked 7th in New York State. The only blemish on a beautiful 8-0-1 record was a tie to a strong Clyde-Savannah team. The Devils topped off their terrific season with a shutout win over arch-rivals Waterloo. Things went differently for the M.A. Junior Varsity. It was a season of high points and low points. The boys, under the coaching of Bruce Knapp and Bruce Littlejohn, showed more promise than their 2-5-1 record indicated. The young Blue Devils only lost one game by more than a touchdown. Coach Geitner definitely has a bright future with these boys. J.V. FOOTBALL Bottom Row: R. Eno, R. Foster. R. Dombrowski. D. Maloney. M. Giovannini. D. Scannell. A. Bachman Row 2: D. DeWall. R. Sullivan — Vice-President Feeling a part of it all is how you could describe this year. The events were accomplished because of the intense participation of the student body. Enthusiasm now and always through life brings you a long way. This Fall we accomplished a very successful homecoming. The ceremonies and dance had to all be set up outside of school because of study halls. The more elaborate details and decorations gave everyone that went a special feeling. As the year goes on and the feeling of being a part of it all continues we realize that this feeling within us will carry us out of school, and be lucrative in our lives. We will try a mixing of our zeal with the now sedate community. Albert Rescorl President 116 SENATE: Bottom Row : D. Osso. M. Giovannini. S. Irland Row 2: R. Avveduti Row 3: M. Fulkerson, M. Students found a few changes in the curriculum for the year, as the infamous structured study hall program was put into effect. After much protest and rebellion everyone finally accepted the new policy and once again things were back to normal. Swift movements combined with perfect strides reminded us that the football and cross country teams were now in session. It seemed all the hard work and sweat paid off as both clubs were successful in starting off their seasons. A lot of rain added to the already muddy fields made a good combination as the girls’ teams practiced long after school hours. Be it a soccer ball, tennis racket or field hockey stick, the M.A. girls showed they knew what to do with each. Harmonizing sounds from the band hall and much “pounding of the pavement” in the back parking lot made everyone realize that the band was preparing for another rewarding year. One important event took place on October 29, as the field and parade bands left for competition in Philadelphia. As the weeks progressed, once more it seemed as though we never left. The Halloween party sponsored by the senior class, which was held at the S.M.S. hall, turned into a great evening as everyone came ready to dance. As October came to an end and November rolled into view, once again all thoughts turned to homecoming. 161 After much hard work and preparation each class managed to finally enter a Homecoming float. The Juniors took first place, to the surprise of many, with the Seniors following close behind. The football team ended their terrific season with an 8-0-1 record and the Wayne-Finger Lakes crown in their pockets. It was only natural that a number one team have a number one band, because that was the case when the Marching Blue Devils came home from competition in Philadelphia with a first place trophy in parade competition.
