Checking through a directory of American colleges are Mr. Carl Rogers, Guidance Director, and Miss Teresa Compitello, Librarian, who also is Dean of Girls. GUIDANCE DEPT. GIVES AIR FORCE TESTS This year, the Guidance Department offered for the first time to Seniors the Air Force Aptitude Test. Given free of charge, it has been used suc- cessfully by that branch of the military service for twenty-five years to determine occupational place- ment. The main purpose of the department is to as- sist each student toward his vocational or educa- tional goal. Students receive advice on the most beneficial courses to study and they set up com- plete schedules. Each ,lunior and Senior is inter- viewed personally with regard to his future. The Guidance Department also helps to secure financial aid in the form of scholarships and loans for the college-bound student. Also, apprentice pro- grams and jobs are secured for many students who do not go on to higher education. Numerous tests are given each year including the lowa Tests, the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test, and the Scholastic Aptitude Test which is re- quired for admission to many private colleges. UNIFQRMITY STRESSED AS LIBRARY SERVES 700 The school library was used by over seven hun- dred students and faculty members this year. Under the supervision of Miss Teresa Compitello, em- phasis was placed on attaining uniformity of pro- cedure in preparing research papers. Classes met frequently in the library to become familiar with its facilities and references. As a result, students have gained practical experience in obtaining resource material, taking note-s, and pre- paring bibliographies. Extensive research work is necessary in today's progressive teaching methodsf' stated Miss Com- pitello. As a result of early preparation in skills, future efforts become less difficult? 'TA student who is familiar with the library will have a tendency to use its resources more frequent- ly,', she continued. 'alt will be helpful, not only to those who go to college, but also to those who stop their formal education after they are graduated from high schoolf,
