BUSINESS DEPARTMENT FACULTY Miss Joyce Nicandri, Mrs. Helen Spen- cer, Mr. Raymond Becker, and Mrs. Madeline Smith EW BUSINESS TEXTS INTRODUCED This year two new textbooks were issued. One, General Business for Everyday Living by Mussel- rnan, Price and Weeks, was selected for the Intro- duction to Business course. The other, Twentieth Century Bookkeeping and Accounting by Boynton, Carlson and Forkner, provides bookkeeping stu- dents with the most recently developed methods based on a multiple entry system that permits more efficient and economical posting procedures. Mynderse Academy offers a variety of business courses including Introduction to Business, Book- keeping, Business Arithmetic and Business Law, Office Practice and Secretarial Practice, Shorthand I and II, and Typing. Again this year, the department provided the off-set printing and mimeographing of pass blanks, library permits and other forms used by the school district.

PHYSICAL FITNESS ENCOLIRAGED school physical fitness program, the Physical Education department is striving to improve the physical condition and fitness of our students. While the classes were held outside, field hockey, speedaway, and soccer were set up for the girls, classes, and the boys participated in football. Winter sports were varied and included trampoline, tumbling, springboard, basketball, volleyball and ring hockey. With spring came baseball, tennis, and track. In addition to these in-class activities, an intramural program was provided for those who wished to increase their ability in any sport. An intrascholastic track meet was again held, with each class sending representatives, both boys and girls, to compete. The Winning class had its numerals engraved on a trophy. Checking a schedule for use of the gymnasium are head coaches Miss Cora Mac Hunt and Mr. George Davis. V RIETY QFFERED I HOMEMAKI G The first two years are composed of two basic one-year courses covering such fields of homemaking as family living, home nursing, cooking, daily living, serving, and decorating. After taking these, a girl may choose any combination from six, one-semester courses. Two of these, Homemaking 10 and Homemaking 11, are taught every year. The remaining four courses are divided into pairs. The pairs are taught alter- nately, one each year. This year Homemaking 5-family living, and Homemaking 7-home nursing, were offered. Next year courses in housing and home furnishing--Home making 6, and child care-Homemaking 8, will be offered. Mrs. Dorothy Lce, Homemaking Instructor, demonstrates proper procedure for measuring a hem line.

Checking through a directory of American colleges are Mr. Carl Rogers, Guidance Director, and Miss Teresa Compitello, Librarian, who also is Dean of Girls. GUIDANCE DEPT. GIVES AIR FORCE TESTS This year, the Guidance Department offered for the first time to Seniors the Air Force Aptitude Test. Given free of charge, it has been used suc- cessfully by that branch of the military service for twenty-five years to determine occupational place- ment. The main purpose of the department is to as- sist each student toward his vocational or educa- tional goal. Students receive advice on the most beneficial courses to study and they set up com- plete schedules. Each ,lunior and Senior is inter- viewed personally with regard to his future. The Guidance Department also helps to secure financial aid in the form of scholarships and loans for the college-bound student. Also, apprentice pro- grams and jobs are secured for many students who do not go on to higher education. Numerous tests are given each year including the lowa Tests, the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test, and the Scholastic Aptitude Test which is re- quired for admission to many private colleges. UNIFQRMITY STRESSED AS LIBRARY SERVES 700 The school library was used by over seven hun- dred students and faculty members this year. Under the supervision of Miss Teresa Compitello, em- phasis was placed on attaining uniformity of pro- cedure in preparing research papers. Classes met frequently in the library to become familiar with its facilities and references. As a result, students have gained practical experience in obtaining resource material, taking note-s, and pre- paring bibliographies. Extensive research work is necessary in today's progressive teaching methodsf' stated Miss Com- pitello. As a result of early preparation in skills, future efforts become less difficult? 'TA student who is familiar with the library will have a tendency to use its resources more frequent- ly,', she continued. 'alt will be helpful, not only to those who go to college, but also to those who stop their formal education after they are graduated from high schoolf,
