N W DRAWI G ROCM FINISHED This year, a new classroom was completed for the Industrial Arts Department in the new wing where much needed space has been provided for seventeen technical drawing students. Mr. Vincent Davies teaches ceramics, technical drawing, and metals technology and practice. Mr. Lloyd Brown teaches carpentry and cabinet-work, fundamentals of home electrical wiring, pattern making, printing and the principles of mass pro- duction. Students continued to assemble the pads of pass blanks, library permits and other forms prepared in the Business Department for use by the school district. AG TLIDENTS GET EW TEACHER This year, Mr. Sherrill Weeks, formerly of Vl7ashingtonville, New York, filled the position of head of the Agriculture Department. The department prepares students for farming and such related occupations as machinery mainte- nance, feed distribution and agricultural salesman- ship. A student's first year is spent studying about machinery, poultry, water systems, dairying, crops, soil, and welding. Mr. Weeks stated that because of our location, dairy farming is stressed. The remain- ing three years are concerned with specialized fields. By specializing in several fields, it is possible to ob- tain a total of six credits in four years. Combining their efforts for the Christmas program are Miss Kathleen Verhowe, Musicg Mr. Earl Saunders, Art and Mr. Anthony Lapinski, Band. ART CLASSES STEM DROP-OUT R TE Joining in with the late President Kennedyis cam- paign against drop-out among high school students, the Basic Art classes made a special study of the situation at Mynderse Academy which has a drop- out rate considerably lower than the national aver- age of 15 per cent. Students composed slogans and designed posters which were placed in the halls throughout the school. Constantly concerned with the need for experi- ences in art appreciation, students assisted in mounting two displays in the entry ways of the school. One, '4Printmaking Highlightsf which fea- tured examples of Woodblock prints, etchings, and lithographs, was on loan from the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse. The other, uFrom Counter to Cupboard, which dealt with the design values of everyday items, was obtained from the Memorial Gallery of Art, Rochester. A short unit on the appreciation of local Nine- teenth century architecture was added to the cur- riculum as a result of special research by Mr. Saunders. Examples of architectural styles were shown dating from 1837, when the recently de- molished Greek Revival White House was erected, to 1887 when the Queen Anne style Becker mansion was built.

PHYSICAL FITNESS ENCOLIRAGED school physical fitness program, the Physical Education department is striving to improve the physical condition and fitness of our students. While the classes were held outside, field hockey, speedaway, and soccer were set up for the girls, classes, and the boys participated in football. Winter sports were varied and included trampoline, tumbling, springboard, basketball, volleyball and ring hockey. With spring came baseball, tennis, and track. In addition to these in-class activities, an intramural program was provided for those who wished to increase their ability in any sport. An intrascholastic track meet was again held, with each class sending representatives, both boys and girls, to compete. The Winning class had its numerals engraved on a trophy. Checking a schedule for use of the gymnasium are head coaches Miss Cora Mac Hunt and Mr. George Davis. V RIETY QFFERED I HOMEMAKI G The first two years are composed of two basic one-year courses covering such fields of homemaking as family living, home nursing, cooking, daily living, serving, and decorating. After taking these, a girl may choose any combination from six, one-semester courses. Two of these, Homemaking 10 and Homemaking 11, are taught every year. The remaining four courses are divided into pairs. The pairs are taught alter- nately, one each year. This year Homemaking 5-family living, and Homemaking 7-home nursing, were offered. Next year courses in housing and home furnishing--Home making 6, and child care-Homemaking 8, will be offered. Mrs. Dorothy Lce, Homemaking Instructor, demonstrates proper procedure for measuring a hem line.
