ENGLISH DEPARTMENT FACULTY Standing: Mrs. Margaret Rosenkrans, Mr. Theodore Kohinkeg Sealed: Mrs. Lucille Plummer, Mrs. Doris Wilson, Mrs. Louise Shannon English Students View the Classics The English Department works to encourage an appreciation of the English language in hoth prose and poetry and to increase our knowledge of good grammar. This year the department used more audio-visual methods than in previous years. Two outstanding films were A Canterbury Tale and Orson Wells, production of Macbeth. Because of the overcrowded conditions in classes, a new position was filled by Mrs. Rosenkrans. In the field of literature, English I students study Ivanhoe and English II students read Julius Caesar. English III students wade through Moby Dick, The Scarlet Letter, The Bridge of Sari Luis Rey, and The Red Badge of Courage. English IV students charge into Macbeth and four other English classics including Pride and Prejudice, and ranging from Chaucer to Virginia Woolf. English IV also con- trasts Macbeth with Emperor lones and Romeo and Juliet with West Side Story.

R. COGLEY . . . Another guide along our search for treasures is Mr. Frank Cooley. During his nineteen years at Mynderse Academy, he has filled numerous posi- tions. We know him personally as vice-principal and teacher. lVlr. Cooley is a two-fold contributor to our chest. As a teacher, he is concerned with our educational development, and, as administrator, he Watches over our disciplinary development. We learned of his versatility through stories taken from his cornucopia of experiences. Before becoming a biology teacher, ERSATILE, BLE he served as a physical fitness director in the Army, worked as a lumberjack, and was a gym teacher. While at Mynderse Academy, he has coached track, golf, baseball, and football. His interest in students and club activities Was evidenced by his being ad- visor to' Block M and Student Council. We shall remember his informative biology class- es and his companion, Oscar. Some of us shall re- call his carrying out necessary disciplinary measures and checking on eligibility of athletes.

One more page had been writ- ten in the textbook of time, courses studied in the History Department seemed to have more relevance to our lives. Some of the freshman students, who are required to take Social Studies, were greeted in September by Mrs. Flora Novak who rejoined our faculty after an absence of several years. Sophomore students in World History were in- troduced to a new series of nine study lessons de- veloped to benefit the non-academic students. lt is comprised of daily lessons which are planned as complete studies. Juniors take American History I which is con- cerned with our American heritage-our victories and failures, our great men and women.
