The topic Leaves may sound like a very commonplace subject, but consider its possibilities. To a gourmet, it may recall a table upon which food is placed. To a Wood- worker, it may mean the thin sheets making up a thickness of laminated wood. Everyone will probably call to mind the glorious landscapes of nature, painted in the crimson, gold, and brown of our fall foliage. However, leaves are also the pages of a book. In the Bible, the greatest book of all times, may be found the principles upon which to build an upright life. . ln other books, We may find and make use of the teachings of our greatest scient- ists and philosophers. Their knowledge becomes ours for the effort if we wish to make it. What effort will you make? You too can leave your mark on these leaves which may become timeless. What will it be? Sincerely, Frank A. Cooley Vice-Principal frank U. COOICY, Springfield College, Columbia Teacher's College, Syracuse University, B.S., M.A , f. a n ,. 1- .-'Ns - ' 2

raymond rn. radfke, Buffalo State Teachers' College, Cornell University, BS., lVl.S. What can the theme Leaves,' mean to you as members of the 1961 graduating class? At first glance any connection between leaves and your class seems remote. However, with thought, the wisdom of choosing this theme becomes apparent. It can have many meanings for you. We in central New York State are fortunate because we can enjoy the beauty of the fall foliage and thrill to the budding of new leaves in Spring. The transition from high school to a new phase of your life is like the changing of seasons. The end of your high school days may be compared to autumn-your senior year has at times been brightly colored as fall leavesg these pleasant experiences are falling away and there is some feeling of sadness as change takes place. But the new experiences you are about to meet are as the budding new leaves in spring-a new, fresh start but still part of the original tree-your home, church, and school. We sincerely hope that we have helped you to develop roots, strength, character, and ideals so that you will continue to grow in success and happiness. Sincerely, Raymond M. Radtke Principal 9
