FH is host to count rall Mrs. Dorothy Ridings, fashion editor at the Observer, tells girls the spring fashion news that she has gathered from her recent trip to New York to view the styles for this season. Striving to aid girls in becoming better homemakers for tomorrow, the Future Homemakers of America club at Myers Park offers many good ideas through pro- grams for this purpose. Before Christmas, a meeting was held at the Piedmont Natural Gas Company Where their home demonstrator gave many help- ful hints on fixing Christmas decorations. At the February meeting, Mrs. Dorothy Ridings, the fashion editor at the Observer, spoke to the club on the coming spring fashions. As a main event of the year, Myers Park was host to the Mecklenburg County Fu- ture Homemakers of America rally held in our auditorium on February 28. The theme, When You Educate a Woman, was em- phasized through the speeches given during the program. As a chapter of the national organization, the Myers Park junior Red Cross involves almost every student in its worthy en- deavors. For Christmas the homerooms filled gift boxes to send to Cuban refugees in Miami. The representatives are complet- ing a scrapbook of our school to send to a school in another country. 'What Clubs especially active on the Myers Park campus this year are the junior and Senior Hi-Y's. As in the past, the spirit of the school has been stimulated by their leader- ship. On the Myers Park campus, the junior Hi-Y has set an example of school spirit. Early to rise on the morning of the October barbecue, this energetic group spent the day serving plate dinners to customers. How- ever, the most memorable project of this club was perhaps the revival of battering the old jalopy. Eve-ryone's tension during exam week was thus relieved by Hacking the Hudson. With every bit of traditional enthusiasm, the Senior Hi-Y has led Myers Park during 1962-63. Many times on the afternoon pre- ceding a big game day, this active group arrayed the Math Building with green and white. During Christmas the boys also found plenty of time to help a needy family see the old year through in comfort. DE Club members pursue job opportunities The Distributive Education Club, which incorporates job opportunities with aca- demic study, was led this year by President Francis Snyder and advised by Mrs. Bur- gess. In order to prepare themselves for their respective roles in the business world, the members enrolled in either DE I or DE II. In DE I, job application, advertising, and salesmanship were studied, While in DE II, the topics for discussion were eco- nomics, business psychology, business in- surance, business law, and public speaking. A long-distance operator, DE Club member Sandra Harding, holds a job at Bell Telephone Co. In addition to preparing displays for the Student Center showcases, the club engaged in several service projects. During the Christmas season, the club sponsored a needy family and held a Christmas party for the children of the family. With the other Distributive Education clubs in Mecklenburg County, the club set up a local scholarship fund in cooperation with the national Distributive Education scholarship fund. The club's Spring project enabled students to become more aware of Myers Parks spring athletic teams. Peggy Hawes, an employee of Be-lk's Department Store, works at a calculator totaling receipts.
