supports orphan in France Latin students had an active year, which began in early fall with the announcement that their scrapbook of Latin Week activi- ties won first place in a state-wide contest. The November meeting had a Thanksgiv- ing atmosphere with the discussion of Roman harvest festivals. Saturnalia, a pagan celebration later replaced by Christ- mas, was the theme of the December meet- ing. With spring came the annual trip to the Latin convention in Chapel Hill and celebration of Latin Week. Operation Amigo topped the program of the Spanish Club for 1963. Sponsored by The Charlotte Observer, Operation Amigo pro- vided Myers Park students with the oppor- tunity of having Peruvian students live in their homes for two weeks. While attending school with their hosts, the Amigos fasci- nated Mustangs with their Peruvian ideas and fluent Spanish. At the Christmas party, Spanish folk songs, Christmas carols and refreshments highlighted the evening of entertainment. vs ma Km Clubbers enact Latin version of Christmas Pageant. These clubs are designed to com- plement the students' classroom studies. Jean Paul Loevenbruck, an exchange stu- dent from France, was the first speaker for the French Club. If Mulwee, inter-club rep., Diamaduros, sec llect for March of Dimes. .4 K As a branch of the YWCA, the Y-teen youth groups have led sophomore, junior, and senior girls at Myers Park into many worthwhile tasks. Collecting for the March of Dimes, all three Y-teen clubs did an ex- cellent job of serving their fellow man. The club presidents put forth much Work in organizing and collecting for this drive. In October, the Senior Y -teen Club had an interesting speaker who spoke about a career in nursing. With the help of Mrs. Smith as advisor, the senior girls obtained the name of a needy family from the Wel- fare department and gathered clothing and food in order to bring Christmas to this less fortunate family. junior Y-teeners, aided by Mrs. Elliot, also brought Christmas cheer to a needy family. Powell Huitt, a student at East Mecklen- burg, talked to the club about his trip abroad as an exchange student on the city- to-city exchange program. In their first year at Myers Park the Sopho- more Y-teens, with Mrs. White as their advisor, made posters to publicize the bar- becue at the school.
