Myers Park's Student Council officers led the student body in many outstanding proj- ects. This year, Myers Park had the honor of being host to the North Carolina State Student Council Congress. Four hundred delegates participating in the convention were housed by Myers Park students. Myers Park was in charge of correspondence, regis- tration of the delegates, and social activities during their stay. Highlights of the conven- tion were a banquet, a talent show, and a semi-formal dance. Monroe Gilmour, Mar- garet Barnes, and Saxby Chaplin, Myers Park's official delegates to the convention, attended discussion sessions with visiting delegates. For two weeks at the end of October, Myers Park participated in the Operation Amigo program. Fourteen Peruvian students lived in the homes of Myers Park students and attended classes with them. In addition to school activities, including a sock-hop, the A migos toured Charlotte and various places of interest in North Carolina. Public Relations Committee Chairmen Ro- berta Frost and Monty Hogewood worked to keep Senior Privileges and to obtain new ones. Starting in November, a 'tlibrary nightll for seniors was introduced, complete- ly managed by students. Sandy Welton, chairman of the Student Opinions Com- mittee, reported on suggestions from the suggestion box. The Elections Committee, headed by Nancy Manning, took charge of all elections held at school, mainly Student Council elections. Left: Citizenship Committee Chairmen Mike Jones and Monroe Gilmour speak at the Honor Week assem- bly which presented the Honor Corps to the students. Right: Welcoming Committee Chairmen Betsy Strawn and Saxby Chaplin look at a map of the school as they wait in foyer to welcome any visitors. The Honor Corps was selected as the best type of honor system for Myers Park after a year of study by the Citizenship Committee. The School Spirit Committee arranged the entertain- ment for the intermission of the Homecom- ing Dance and sponsored a School Spirit Week before the East football game. Assem- bly Committee Chairmen Buddy Finch and Faison Kuester coordinated all assemblies held during school hours. The Athletic Com- mittee, headed by George Elliot, jack Hemp- hill, George Edwards, and Steve Annas, was in charge of intramurals, which provided boys not engaged in varsity sports the opportunity of participating in an organized sports program. Bill Jeffries and Bill Bolen, chairmen of the House and Grounds Com- mittee, kept the campus in as good shape as possible. Publicity Committee Chairmen French Boyd and Margaret Barnes sup- ported the athletic teams by making and putting up posters and banners before each game. Myers Park's exchange student to Norway, Caroline Elliot, headed the Ameri- can Field Service Committee. Myers Park's service projects were topped by collecting four hundred and fifty dollars to contribute to the Empty Stocking Fund and for the annual gift to the maintenance staff. A Student Council meeting held be- fore the entire student body at the end of the year climaxed the Student Council's busy year. V, V Q 16 Girls from the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades have a busy year of serving others through the Girl Ambassadors Club. Their activities are not confined to the school, but include civic services as well. New girls at Myers Park get acquainted each year at the Ambassadors, New Girls Tea. Making and selling pompoms is always the club's most important project during football season. December is a month crowded with activi- ties for the club. First on the schedule is the annual faculty Christmas banquet. Talented members put on an array of enter- tainment for their teachers. To add seasonal spirit to the campus the girls decorate the large tree beside the library. While on Christmas vacation the Ambassadors give a party for-the children at Good Samaritan Hospital. They also go caroling at the homes of the faculty. As the year progresses, the club's enthusi- asm does not dwindle. Collecting for the March of Dimes is the first project after semester exams. During second semester, girls who have the required number of points and have been approved by the members are inducted into the club. Also, in the last half of the year, there is a cake bake, which is the club's most prosperous project. Entertainment and soft drinks are provided for the Sadie Hawkins picnic by the Key Club and Ambassadors. At faculty Christmas banquet Birch Lipford, Roberta Frost, Sally Boger, Corinne Horne, and Townley Spratt present skit Mountain Dew. Other talented Ambassadors also entertained teachers with original acts after dinner. Each member took part in preparation of banquet. f l I, I t i 3 t I 1 i t l
