E. members learn business methods through experience Advised by Mrs. Burgess, members of the Distributive Education club continued academic work while learning of business and advertising through experience in vari- ous jobs. Besides allowing students to learn better methods of business, the group prepared displays of merchandise in the Student Center showcases. Sponsor- ing Good Grooming Week was the main project of the club. This week was culminated by a fashion show in which students modeled clothes from local merchants. unior Red Cross participates in nation-Wide activities 5 aids disaster-stricken areas Homeroom representative Carey Shore explains functions of high school Red Cross to Brenda Klutz and Deanna Eaker. Functioning as an active branch of the American Red Cross, the Myers Park High School Red Cross chapter began the year with a successful membership drive. Donations to support the year's activities were collected by representatives working in their homerooms. Most projects were on a national level or in coopera- tion with other Mecklenburg county schools. As a result of the first of these projects, Myers Park's exchange students were able to make recordings to send to their families at Christmas. Another of these joint projects was preparing Red Cross gift boxesg cartons were filled with small toys and personal grooming items, then sent to orphanages and nurseries in the United States and overseas. Members Lucy Dulin, Pat Hemby, and Jean Byrd prepare Red Cross gift boxes to be sent overseas. fly lf?'5'e Red Cross Officers. Standing: Sec.-Treas. Martha Ratchford. Sitting: Pres. Doing their part to improve world relations, the members filled a large chest with towels, blankets, and canned goods to be sent to rescue units in disaster areas. To complete the year's work, scrapbooks containing pictures of school and students were exchanged with many South American high schools. First semester activities for the Key Club included providing corsages for the varsity cheerleaders during football season, cleaning the school flags, sponsoring a family at Christmas, and the annual compiling of the Key Club student directory.
