Sixth period was devoted to preparing each issue by editors, report- ers, and typists. Subscriptions were included in English instructional fees, thus entitling every student to receive a copy. Distribution took place in the homerooms and at lunch. Because of the outstanding ad sales campaign led by Susan Barnette and Caroline Martin, Business Man- agers, special issues were printed at Christmas and grad- uation. Most school clubs and organizations as well as business concerns bought ads. Also, through this sales- manship the entire financial standing of the paper was improved. Admiring Mustang awards are John Apperson, Business Managerg Mr. Browne and Mrs. Cohan, advisorsg and Walter Graham, Editor. 1961 Mustang wins awardsg Early in September, thirty-nine Murmfzg staff members began planning and working to edit another All-Arneri- can yearbook for Myers Park. Walter Graham, Editor, and Mr. Browne and Mrs. Cohan, Advisors, introduced to the major staff novel ideas to incorporate in the 1962 annual. The entire book was printed on tinted paper, and a special ink was used in the opening section. The theme of the Mumzfzg carried out Myers Park's desire for the renewal of unity in scholarship, leadership, and citizenship. Business Manager john Apperson, assisted by Treas- urer jan Gaskell and an enlarged business staff, sold ads to raise money for the production of the Mustang. For additional funds they initiated a more extensive sale of sponsorships. Homeroom representatives served as salesmen of annuals and class pictures. Section editors toiled to complete the Mustang by the deadline. Layouts were drawn, pictures were taken, and copy was written to present an informative and appeal- ing overview of the year. Assisting them were the minor staff members who increased their knowledge of year- book production by working with the major staff. Major Staff members plan '62 Mustang.
