l rr? Orchestra plays at sixth annual Christmas Assembly Practicing during fifth period each day, the orchestra worked to attain perfection of tone. In the weeks before concerts, rehearsals often extended into night sessions. President Caroline Pilcher, Vice President Mac Smith, Secretary-Treasurer Alice McNeill, and Director Mr. Mims planned programs and made all arrangements for the orchestrais performances. Wforking together, the orchestra, choir, and chorus pre- sented an impressive performance of Handel's rlrlwpmzli and other seasonal music at the traditional Christmas assembly. Mr. Mims initiated a new tradition this year by inviting graduate students of Myers Park to return to perform with the orchestra for this annual assembly program. In October and again in the spring, the orchestra pro- vided music for the National Honor Society tapping assemblies. During December the group appeared in concert at Myers Park Elementary School. Members named to the All-State Orchestra performed at East Carolina College in February and at the Music Educators Association meeting in Asheville in April.
