Muskingum's department of economics and busi- ness administration explains the theories and in- tricacies of our economic life, trains students for the business world in any position from stenog- rapher to tycoon. Drs. McGuire and Heckman handle the theory, while Miss Amerson instructs in the mechanical phases. iyucafion Lowery Bixler Sole vocational department at Muskingum is the department of education which has supplied hundreds of elementary and high school teach- ers to the schools of Ohio and Pennsylvania in past years. Organized to keep up with the latest valid trends in the educational field, Mus- kingum can today claim many of the most suc- cessful and respected teachers in these states. Under the direction of Dr. J. G. Lowery, one of Ohio's noted and successful educational crusad- ers, this department is one of the most valuable in the school, can hold its own with any college or university in Ohio. 28 f? colfwmicd unc! guainedd No hunt and peck . . . Offering courses in both the mechanical and appreciative fields of art this department attempts to give the stu- dent an adequate background for the under- standing and enjoyment of the cultural arts of our civilization. Favored project of the depart- ment this year is the course, The Arts , which combines art, music, and English departments in the study of fundamentals of expression. Basic difference between Muskingum and many other colleges is the emphasis placed upon relig- ion and spiritual life here. Muskingum's Bible department is organized to give the student full understanding, historically, philosophically, psy- chologically, of the meaning of Christianity and its worth to the individual, as well as a sympa- thetic survey of other religions existent in the world today. Drs. McCreight and Rife handle what is too often an argumentative subject in an erudite, logical manner which enhances, rather than detracts from, its true worth. wwf. ,. ' Barn hart Brown H955 Dr. Dale with South America class. History students listen to Dr. Work. McGuire Wilhelm The world of writing and literature, from ancient Chaucer to the newest ink-damp work, running the gamut from the deepest intellectual tomes to the most fantastic wanderings of human imag- ination, is encompassed in the work of Muskin- gum's English department. The English faculty attempts to instill a love for the various types of literature and provides the foundation for an in- telligent appreciation of this type of expression. Practical everyday English is stressed as the de- partment strives to acquaint the student with the correct method of expressing himself in every- thing from business letters to research papers. .!Q45lf0r7 Y 5 Work Democracy is dependent upon intelligent citizen- ship, and intelligent citizenship is, in part, de- pendent upon a knowledge and understanding of the forces and deeds of the past, believes Muskingum's history department. Acting on this belief, the department provides complete cover- age of the world's recorded history, from a gen- eral survey of the most ancient civilization to a detailed study of contemporary trends. Headed by Professor DeJong, the department includes Drs. Work and Dale, both well acquainted by actual personal experience with the philosophy and personnel of European and African govern- ments. 29
