FOR the past three years the students of the class of nineteen thirty-nine have been inculcating into their personalities all of the qualities and ideals of Muskingum College with which we have had the privilege of coming in contact. During those three years we have been watching our college, even under the most strenuous circum- stances, grow in gargantuan proportions through the efforts and leadership of our progressive administration. Although there are undoubtedly many incidental sources to which this new century progress can be attributed, and no matter how important a role they have played in this progressiveness, we feel they all lead back to one embryo - the president of the college. ln our status we have no words which could describe his brilliantly versatile personality, and so we should like to reiterate a quotation from Cicero which we think is in a small measure on adequate description of his qualities. l-le is an eloquent man who can treat humble subjects with delicacy, lofty things impressively, and moderate things temperately. His spirit rises up to guide the every move of advance- ment of our college, the statue of his exquisite personality will loom large in the minds of the present generations of students, and in those who are yet to come. So to our progressive leader, educator, president, the man of the new century, Dr. Robert N. Montgomery, we dedicate the Muscoljuan of nineteen thirty-eight.
