wwf One hundred years in the annals of history are but a brief moment, but to a 1975 graduate of Muskegon High School, it means to be a part of a proud heritage. A rugged lumber town in 1875 constructed an educational system that has weathered the years and grown stronger in each decade. A high school that in 1974 was judged one of the top five high schools in the nation certainly means that our forefathers laid a firm foundation. A community built on the waterfront of Muskegon Lake, while floating its logs down the river in the 1800's, was equally as concerned with providing a reading room for its citizens, a cultural center, and a school. One hundred years later a fine public library and art gallery, 27 public school buildings, and a community college stand as evidence to support the pioneer fathers. This year, on our centennial birthday, it can all come together. Man works with man, woman with woman, then man and woman as one. From such work comes growth, pride, experience, happiness, and success. To congratulate ourselves, to some, could ring as a hollow gesture, but congratulate ourselves we must. For, you see, no matter how carefully the early bricks were troweled into place, the foundation could crumble in the absence of proper care. Care from our citizens, our youth, our elected officials, in consort with our God, makes for a real celebration in 1975. As the last diploma is given to a Muskegon High School senior in the Walker Arena on june 4,1975,1O0 years of school progress in the City will come to an end. Receive this diploma with the hope that the future years - yes, the second 100 - will be even stronger for all that you may have done to make it true. Dr. W. L. Austin Superintendent Muskegon Public Schools Muskegon, Michigan 1
