e mama wlmfge Science, as a predominant factor in modern life, is rapidly changing our nation. Since the atom was first smashed, various scientific inventions have been transforming the every-day world. Atomic powered jets, new chemicals, and electronic com- puters are only a few significant contributions of the atom to humanity. Because America's schools have made addition- al contributions to mankind and because the ed- ucational system is essential to American progress, institutions such as M. H. S. may be compared to a powerful atom. The young men and women of Muskegon Senior High form the protons and neutrons of a student nucleus around which the electrons in the atom revolve. Our school atom contains four electrons.. The first electron consists of adrninistra- tion, faculty, and classes which charge the nucleus. Electron number two, the organizations, orbit about the pupils causing them to dispel nuclear energy. The year's hi-lites represent a third electron which balances the atomic valence of our school. There is still another electron, the advertising staff for Said and Done. This completes an atom that must work together in a single harmonious system. A state of orderly co-operation is achieved in the com- pletion, and co-operation is responsible for the enormous progress our educational institutions have made. As the chemist's atom is a vital part of science so the school-atom is a vital part of American ideals and American life. . Tom Zatalokin typifies the average student at M.H.S. who helps to create the changes and activity noticed around the campus. Here he visits with buddies before the last bell rings for home room. Making final touches on a theme, Tom keeps busy during home room, while listening to announcements. Research requires using facilities in the library. Clarifying a doubtful problem, Tom confers with his mathematics instructor. Mr. Rolfe.
