I l Little Reds lose only one Starting the season two weeks earlier than usual, the Little Reds, sparked by Saylors dead-eye passing, overpowered the Grand Haven Reserves 25 to O. The next two teams to feel the conqueror's heel were Benton Harbor, 25 to 6 and Grand Rapids Union, 20 to 6. Kuzyk's running and a sterling pass combination, Saylor to Barnes, made possible the victories. After swamping Ludington, 32 to 7, and Catholic Central Little Crusaders, 46 to 7, the Little Reds bumped into a mastodonic Kalamazoo team. In a game marred by Muskegon's complete lack of tackling, the Little Giants manufactured the Little Red's only defeat of the year. Ending their season in a way that pleased everybody, the Little Tigers of Heights were dumped 15 to 7. Outstanding team members throughout the year were Scott, Doubles, Reed, and Barnes on the line, and the entire backfield made up of Saylor, Vos, Woodring, and Kuzyk. Reserves win 9, lose 6 The 1954 Little Reds basketball team showed great promise as they demonstrated they could win when they wished. There were about 50 boys on the squad with good height and fair speed. The six losses, except the two to Holland, could easily have been turned into victories if it had not been for fouls and poor rebounding. The Little Reds' sweetest victory was undoubt- edly their decision of 62-39 over the Heights. Everyone on the bench played in that one. As a whole, the team started slowly, but improved steadily in every department. High scorers for the season were Blakely, with a 10.8 average, and Ryan, with a 9 point average. These boys along with Dave johnson, Kendall, and Saylor should prove a big aid to the Big Reds next season. FIRST ROW: Kuzyk, Weibarger, Howard, Saylor, Scott, Doubles, Reed, Woodring.
