Eighteen awarded letters In a season ,marked by ups and downs, the 1953 Big Reds proved they were equal to any team in the state on their good days. In the two opening games of the season, the defense was exceptional. The opponents gained a net of 52 yards. Then - a low ebb as Muskegon met disaster in their next two starts. Meetu.L two Indiana teams on successive weekends, the Big Reds got back on a winning basis by Vwhitewashing both of them. The Muskegon victory train was derailed for the last time by a Saginaw team that took advantage of first-half breaks. Winning by a last minute interception, the Big Reds upset a fast Moosehart, Illinois squad. The Muskies completed their season in high style by,ripping the Heights Tigers apart for the third consecutive time. Out of eighteen Iettermen, fourteen will graduate, leaving only four as a nucleus for next season.
