eadaw dee mcmq 7naaaaL'6aae . Whats new ? People ask you that every day. Nothin' much you always say. But take a look. There is quite a list of innovations which we seniors have wit- nessed in our three years of high school. Who ever heard of a driver training course before three years ago? It is commonly accepted now, and many sign up for it each semester. We used the first fluorescent lighting at MHS--we saw the first tennis team coached by the popular Bill Bos. Our band gained national recognition and startled the football spectators last fall with their snappy new uniforms - the first in ten years. When we were in tenth grade, the radio department received a big boost -for at that time it was decided that MHS would have complete charge of WKBZ-FM. Miss Peggy Powers start- ed our first debate class this year in September. MHS got a New Look in 1951 with the pastel colors in our classrooms. I. D. cards were introduced last year, and we recently established a recreation center with weekly dances at Vanderlaan School. We welcomed the first European exchange students to Muskegon and also contributed to the first rural school supported by our Student Council. We seniors are proud to have been a part of this progress-proud to have all these firsts connected with the class of '53, We can rest assured that this progress will continue at even greater speed, for we have just seen the beginning of a building program which will mean a new era in the his- tory of Muskegon schools.

The purpose of education is to equip young people to make a place for themselves in today's progressive community. Since many students will have to compete on an adult plane immediately after they graduate, they must be given a chalice to do work acceptable on an adult plane before graduation. 7 f
