To Robert D. Ferris. with affection and gratitude do we ded- icate this annual. As assistant principal. Uncle Bob as he is known by most pupils, has the unpleasant role of disiplin- arian. For this reason, he does not always receive the full co- operation of less thoughtful students: however anyone who has worked with hirn in any capacity will testify to his friendliness, generosity, and faimess. Mr. Ferris has never been too busy to contribute his time and effort unstintingly for the success of any school organization or project. As he is called upon so frequently to give his attention to countless activities. this means that a great deal of his effort is devoted to the enjoyment of the entire scchool. As if these previously mentioned tasks were not enough Mr. Ferris has written an unbelievable number of letters to former Muskegon Senior High students in the Armed Forces. All of these students will agree with the present enrollment that Mr. Ferris is more than deserving of this tribute.

T seems a long time: but it's really not so long i v ago that we started out, very much puzzled and innocent- : ly perplexed, in the dawn of our school days, knowing only that we were to go to school for twelve long years. Now, as we stand in the twilight of those rapidly passing years, we face another dawn, equally as puzzling and far more complex than that earlier one. We have come far: being well along the road of ed- ucation, of learning life. The general trends of our lives are quite firmly fixed. Like a sign at the crossroads, these inclinations point in that direction which our educators, our teachers, by their never-ceasing efforts have determin- ed shall be ours. Through their guidance we have pre- pared ourselves to overcome the obstacles, to attain and partake of the success and happiness in life, that will be found along this road. To those who have taught us. who have pointed the way: to our high school which has been unconsciously and unavoidably endeared to us through countless hours well spent, we must, in hap piness touched with reluctance, bid farewell. As for our friends, our own classmates who have shared in common the studies and books, the athletics and playing fields, and the many happy times in congregation: we need but call them together, not bid them goodbye. For together and not apart will we exist as citi- zens of our nation. Of course, we are taking individual by-paths: some to higher, advanced education, others to soon take up in varied occupations, all to learn more of life on the road of living. However, as the army gathers its forces for the march, may we, with a spirit of pi- oneering unity in this new, uncertain dawning, move forward on that road to find what lies on the ether side of the hill of Our Day. RICHARD THOMAS President-Student Council, Senior Class
