VARSITY BASKETBALL MALVIN'S TROPHY Awarded to the first win ner ot three consecutive games between Muskegon and our Tigers. This year our varsity cagers got off to a fast start by whipping the Grand Rapids city champs, but after that they ran into some tough competition and some bad breaks. The Tigers were at a disadvantage in height this season, and in experience, but they formed a scrap- py organization, forcing most of their foes to the limit to win. With a little luck, our Tigers could have had a much better record. The Tigers plan revenge for next year, never let- ting a fair season stand in the way of a better one. Coach Okie Iohnson and his boys will be on the warpath again next year, as usual. Things will probably happen. The title was not decided until the last game of the season when Coach Herman A. Kriuzenga's red-hot quintet defeated the Muskegon seconds, 40-25. In their first conference game of the year the Baby Bengals edged out a 40-39 victory over a tall Holland team. This was the start of a four game winning streak which brought three more wins to the second's total. The Tiger Cubs lost to Muskegon 36-28 and to Holland 32-28 for their only conference losses of the season. These two losses seemed to stimulate our seconds who soared to new heights, winning their last four games, and taking the con- ference crown. -102-
