Courtright Wemer The musical sounds issuing from the auditor- ium at 9 a.m. every morning belong to violins, flutes, 'ce1los, and other instruments which make up the orchestra. Not quite as large as in former years, the orchestra nevertheless has presented us with some very fine music under direction of Mr. Gayle A, Churchill. It is traditional for the orchestra to play every year for the Iunior and Senior plays, and for the Baccalaureate service which starts off the graduation exercises. The orchestra also plays for assemblies and outside of school organizations. Begun in 1922, by Miss Nina B. Coye, the orchestra had in the next seven years, tour instructors, and in 1933 was taken over by Mr. Courtright, its director until fall of 1943 when it was turned over to Mr. Paul Schulze, and then to Mr. Churchill under Whose guidance it has progressed for the last year and a half.

Director, Wheaton, Haiker, Boone, Hendricks. Hislop. Visscher. Perhaps the most all-around organiza- tion in our school, the A Capella Choir, Well deserves the record it has made for itself. It was begun a year and a half ago im., 1 Q by Mr. Churchill, its director. Almost im- 556' mediately after the choir was formed, it ' Xt if ,Qfg adopted for its theme the difficult Emitte i 'fWu ' Spiritum Tuum , by Ioseph Schuetky. His Shadow Mr. Churchill Two concerts were given in the course of the year. one at Christmas time and a spring concert in May. The choir sings at assemblies and is quite busy also during graduation week. Singing outside of school is done almost as much as for school programs. In December, the choir had an audition and made a program transcription for our local station WKBZ. The members also attended the district choir festival at Grand Rapids, which was conducted by the eminent Noble Cain. The choir shows promise of a great future.
