E E I E? no x'.::n . . What time did you say that Presidential debate starts tonight? Eight-thirty. Oh, good. 'Kotter' won't be pre-empted! Actually, it's doubtful that many people became upset when their favorite programs were pre-empted during the three nationally televised debates. Too many students were concerned about their candidate and the issues to worry about 'Archie and Edith' or 'Rhoda and Ioe'. No, they'd just have to wait. We had more important things to think aboutg, ourselves and our next 200 years-well, at least the next four! Seniors discussed and criticized the debates in government classes, and friends carried on their own debates in the cafeteria, in the halls, and even on the buses. Lockers, bumpers, and notebooks were covered with stickers advertising Saying it with music is one way Phil Crews manages to boast his choice in the upcoming election. The stickers on the tuba could be clearly seen from the stands. FordfDole and Carterflvlondale as well as local candidates such as lim Leach and Ed Mezvinsky who were vying for lst District Congressman. Carter's peanut necklaces gave the Planter's Peanutman a real run for his money. Almost everyones shirts sported Ford or Carter buttons, with the exception of a few souls who still believed that ANixon was the one'. The student who wanted to get involved in other ways besides voting, worked for the party of his or her choice. They became door knockers, phone callers and sign planters in effort to get the community out to vote. The result of concern on the part of everyone, was the best voter turnout ever in Muscatine for a national election. That's good politics, and by getting involved, we made it work!
