I ' y v-454, f N lam! Right from an old, familiar school we were flung into one with fresh paint, new classes and unfamiliar faces. Nervous? Anxious? Unsure? You bet we were, but after a year of adjustments we settled into life in a new school. The memory of that hectic first year W had faded. When we entered those purple and gold doors last fall, it was the second time around for most of us. A year older and a year wiser, we had grown with our environment. It was no longer the new building, but our school. We saw this year as a challenge, an opportunity to put to work ideas that we were afraid to bring up before. The year was ours and we were determined to make it special, and ready to make it work. 42 ts its S? iff ,ir-H 3. ,ze Q Y S ,sa RR Rolled up sleeves were a common sight during Risk Factor. Muscatine is one of three test cities nation-wide involved in the Coronary Risk Factor Program which is in its seventh year. A crowd-pleaser. With the reaction of 'this crowd no one would guess that we had no pep club for the second year in a row. Even at this out-of-town game, against Bettendorf, we found strength in numbers, thus making Muskie spirit work. Opening 5 , .-l -1

f N ur school - the words had more meaning this year. They sounded positive, direct, sure - reflecting us. Unlike before, we had gained a self-identity. We knew it. We felt it. It was time to let the world know about it. How? Some ways were as subtle as the signs in front of the office listing communities and teachers, as silent as the green grass and new trees lining the building, even as Huffin' and puffin' to stay ahead of his opponent Ed Castillo dashes toward the finish line. Both track teams did exceptionally well with the' sophomore team winning the Mississippi Valley Championship. ' Q- simple as bleachers at the tennis courts. Other ways were as bold as the new pool and track in back of the school, as solid as the wooden sign replacing the concrete one at the Cedar Street entrance, or as striking as the school emblem hanging in the gym. But no matter how nonchalant or- outspoken our means were, the end resultsealways let everyone know this is Muskie Country, our school and we're proud of it! .
