Fmsr Rowz. Charles Hngcrmann, Joe Hill, Helen Ahlschlagcr, VVcrner Axel, Dr. E. E. Goss SECOND Row: Gus Allbec, Carl Gunzcnhauscr, Charles Kern, Ed Asthaltcr, Dr. VV. S. Norton --ew-i BOARD OF EDUCATION Wlith advancement comes organization, and with organization comes centralization of control. Thus was the school board ushered into existence. It came about as a necessity that some representative citizens should control and regulate the affairs of the school system. Turning back the pages one notices that the Board of Education has taken the path that leads to helpful and practical education of the youth attending the schools. XVhen discord arose, it was this group that was de- pended on to smooth the rough spots and stick to the path. It must do what it considers the right thing, even in the face of censure. Included in its duties are appointing teachers, principals, and superintendent, supervising the conditions of the schools, both of the administration and the buildings, and taking general charge of the educational program of the city. VVerner Axel, Ed Asthalter, Dr. XV. S. Norton, and Carl Gunzenhauser were re-elected this season for another term. Charles Hagermann heads this group as president, and assisting him are Gus Allbee, vice-president, Carl Gunzenhauser, treasurer, Miss Helen Ahlschlager, secretary, and Charles Kern, truant oiiicer.
