The Editorial Staff of the l94l Gristmill has decreed that the Annual shall portray the life at Shaker as the shifting scenes of a circus. The adventure, the wonder, the excitement and the fun,-all are present in our school even as in a circus. Each and every Shakerite is an actor or participant, and each is mindful that the cooperation of all is necessary for the show's success. l therefore, Madam Editor, bow to your decree and am transformed into a ring- master. This act takes the center ring! That one goes in the north ring, the other in the south! Each ring shall be the center of attraction briefly, for each must capture only its proper share of the plaudits of the crowd. Here, clown, cut down your time! Don't overact your part! The crowd must miss no feat of skill or timing, no beautiful effect. The actors in the l94l troupe are now about to move on to another and bigger circus. Those who have been conscientious in their daily exercise and per- formance here need not be Worried about meeting its demands. They have acquired the greater skill and better techniques necessary for the more difficult acts of the larger circus. l, the ringmaster, am proud of your skill, your accomplishments, and your contributions to the circus. l shall long remember your willingness to cut some stellar acts and enlarge the rings in order to include more performers. You leave me planning, with clearer vision, a better circus. Now may every actor achieve according to his efforts. Your success and happiness will always be the cause of much pride and rejoicing to The Ringmastern ROBERT B. PATIN.
