Fraslimen Find Murphy Fun Entering Murphy in September were many bewildered and baffled freshmen trying to find their way around. After getting acquainted and settling down they elected as their officers Ronnie Humble, president; Betty Borden, vice-president; Ann Benson, secretary; Becky Owen, treas- urer; and Judy Cowan and Cecil Beauchamp, representa- tives. Miss Betty Bosdcll was sponsor. The entire freshman class voted Beverly Baggett as the freshman sweetheart, and she chose Greer Megginson to lead the freshman Sweetheart Dance with her on February 13. On April 11, the freshman officers sold cokes and checked hats and coats at the Junior-Senior Prom. Three freshmen boys were outstanding in athletics. Hugh Merry was the only freshman on the golf team, along with three seniors, and Eugene Warhurst and Charles Coleman were the only freshmen to letter in football. Mary Etta Van Devendcr won first prize of twenty-five dollars in the Azalea Trail Theme Contest sponsored by the Jun- ior Chamber of Commerce. 12 mohian
