ofjEznincj tD u % In order to bring the student body closer to the governing council, the advisory council was organized. The membership of the advisory council is comprised of one representative from each section. The representatives are supposed to deliver to their sections the problems and new ideas discussed in the meeting. Members of the different sections give suggestions to their rep- resentatives. In turn he takes them to the next advisory council meeting and they are dis- cussed. Through the minutes of the advisory cuoncil meeting, the governing council receives its suggestions. If an idea or suggestion seems helpful, or to the betterment of the school, it is discussed and voted on in the governing council meeting. If passed, it is then given to our principal, Mr. Clark, for further consideration. A chairman, vice-chairman, and a clerk serve as officers of this advisory council. Mr. William Unzicker served as its able faculty advisor this year- It is through this organization that the spirit of unity is obtained in a school as large as Murphy. Chairman Advisory Council. Porter Kintr. Ki ht: resident Student Governing Council, Carolyn iosson. The Student Governing Council is composed of twenty student representatives. Six are elected from the Senior class, four from the Junior class, three from the Sopho- more class, two from the Freshman class, and one from each of our three mid-year classes. The president of the council is a member of the Senior class, and vice-president is a member of the Junior class. These twenty students are advised by Mr. W. C. Stapleton. One of the greatest responsibilities of the council is the management of the

m Principal K. J. Clark iddrtsie,' Faculty. Having a faculty such as ours is indeed a fortunate thing for any school. Such teachers as Mr. Sidney Phillips, Mr. Ray Venman, and Mr- B. T. Dobbins have won the admiration of all and add much to school life. Others dear in the hearts of the students are Mrs. S. S. Murphy and Mrs. E. L. Breland, whose sweet personalities and wonderful abilities as teachers have made them sought by all. Miss Clyde Kennedy, our art teacher, with able assistants, is responsible for the artistic development of Murphy High students. After the distinction the Four Arts Club has brought to Murphy High School, congratulations should be given our splendid dra- matic leaders, Mrs. Louise Hamil and Miss Ruth Knudsen. Working hand in hand, they have been very successful. For their untiring efforts in the interest of the students of Murphy, Miss Ruth Forehand and Mrs Jessie E. Cole also are due sincere thanks. Never too busy to help someone, Miss Hazel Driver, dean of girls, fills a place in the hearts of all. Under her guidance, Murphy girls can always receive valuable advice. Let us not forget the important services which Mr. Roy Wilkie has rendered our school. Through his faithful work, he has made it pos- sible for us to have one of the most outstanding year books of the United States. Contributions like these are remembered through the years. Due praise is given Mrs. Anita Grimes, who has been responsible several years for the publication of the Murphy Hi Times, our school paper, of which we are justly proud. Our able librarian, Mrs. Devilbliss and Miss Elizabeth Moffat, wtih their worthwhile suggestions about good reading, are very helpful to the students and fill neces- sary places. It is through the co-operation of these and many other members of the faculty, who are not mentioned here, that our school has become the institution of learning that it is today. 25

The committees are: Traffic, Yard, Locker, Auto-parking, Athletic, Girl’s Dressing Room, Roy’s Dressing Room, Honor, Lost and Found, Nominations and Elections, Publicity, and Civic Welfare. Each committee has a chairman chosen from the members of the Governing Council by the president. Every chairman has a faculty advisor who is selected by the principal. It is the responsibility of the chairman to see that his committee has a sufficient number of student monitors and runs smoothly- The Governing Council mets bi-monthly in room 17d. President Rosson calls the meeting to order and Secre- tary Childers calls the roll and reads the minutes of the last Governing Council meeting and also those of the Advisory Council meeting. All committee reports are heard. If there is any particular problem facing a chair- man and his committee, all members of the council give their view points on the matter. It is through the Gov- erning Council that Murphy students are able to govern their school with such fine democratic spirit. Itight: A l vixory Council Meeting.
