Miss Annie Mary Sclater. Meeting of Murphy High School Faculty. An interesting subject for one to write about is Mur- phy High School's faculty. Every member of it deserves credit for the part he has played in promoting education. When thinking of those who have given so much of their time and thought to our school, we can give no better example than Miss Mae Eanes- During her fifty years of service, she has won for herself the title of “Our Leading Citizen.” Being under the influence of a person with such standards and ideals is valuable to any school. Two other well known members are Miss Anna Mary Sclater, who has the distinction of being the oldest teach- er at Murphy, from point of service, and Miss Edith Duffee, who should be congratulated on her fifty-one years of splendid work.

We at Murphy have the privilege of having on our office force the State Chairman of the National Association of School Secretaries- She is Miss Effie Lou Brown, Mr. Clark’s secretary. While at Murphy she took a secretarial course and was art editor of the Mohian during her sen- ior year. Sketching figures is still one of her hobbies. The illustrations in “Two Freshmen Ex- plore The Library” were excellently done by Miss Brown. Also, our Murphy stickers were drawn by her. Starting out as clerk in the hack office, she was soon promoted to Mr. Clark’s office. Besides taking care of all Mr. Clark’s mail and his office, she has charge of promotions and failures, and arranges annual vocational conferences. Our daily bulletins and all special annuoncements are issued through Miss Brown’s office. Since Barton days, Mrs. Fell has been Murphy’s registrar, twenty-two years in all. At first she was the only clerk in the office, acting as secretary, making out schedules, and keeping the records. Now, with four people in the office, Mrs. Fell arranges schedules, checks and completes the senior’s graduating requirements, and assists with the banking. Outside of school Mrs. Fell’s hobbies are traveling and housekeeping. She has been to Chicago, Washington, D. C., through Florida, Texas, Tennessee, and by boat to New York. A football game is one of her favorite pasttimes. On many houseparties she has been chaperon and knowing and loving boys and girls as she does, one of her greatest satisfactions is to see their successes after they have left Mur- phy. The entire student body certainly returns this love and interest. 09

m Principal K. J. Clark iddrtsie,' Faculty. Having a faculty such as ours is indeed a fortunate thing for any school. Such teachers as Mr. Sidney Phillips, Mr. Ray Venman, and Mr- B. T. Dobbins have won the admiration of all and add much to school life. Others dear in the hearts of the students are Mrs. S. S. Murphy and Mrs. E. L. Breland, whose sweet personalities and wonderful abilities as teachers have made them sought by all. Miss Clyde Kennedy, our art teacher, with able assistants, is responsible for the artistic development of Murphy High students. After the distinction the Four Arts Club has brought to Murphy High School, congratulations should be given our splendid dra- matic leaders, Mrs. Louise Hamil and Miss Ruth Knudsen. Working hand in hand, they have been very successful. For their untiring efforts in the interest of the students of Murphy, Miss Ruth Forehand and Mrs Jessie E. Cole also are due sincere thanks. Never too busy to help someone, Miss Hazel Driver, dean of girls, fills a place in the hearts of all. Under her guidance, Murphy girls can always receive valuable advice. Let us not forget the important services which Mr. Roy Wilkie has rendered our school. Through his faithful work, he has made it pos- sible for us to have one of the most outstanding year books of the United States. Contributions like these are remembered through the years. Due praise is given Mrs. Anita Grimes, who has been responsible several years for the publication of the Murphy Hi Times, our school paper, of which we are justly proud. Our able librarian, Mrs. Devilbliss and Miss Elizabeth Moffat, wtih their worthwhile suggestions about good reading, are very helpful to the students and fill neces- sary places. It is through the co-operation of these and many other members of the faculty, who are not mentioned here, that our school has become the institution of learning that it is today. 25
