There’s Something There is something in these hills that has touched everyone of us, something that has rubbed off on us in varying degrees, something that has built within the breasts of all Murphy High students an enduring spark akin to an eternal pride. There is something in these hills that enlivens competition, thereby producing champions, cham- pions who have an overpowering will to win but still can face defeat and not be shaken. For defeat will but produce a stronger second drive. We can all be very proud of our Champs and many of us can say, I was there, I supported my team, I helped cheer the Bulldogs on to victory. There's something in these hills that deepens character, awakens the mind, and broadens interests; something that strengthens friendships and ignores

in ±he G — ills... such modern facts as generation gaps, communication gaps, and ideological gaps and binds together a society of many cultural backgrounds. We have all drawn from these hills something to suggest to youth that those over thirty can be trusted and to indicate to those over thirty that the qualities of youth are as sound today as they ever were. There's something in these hills that you and I can't define and others can't understand, some- thing that is seemingly vague and mysterious. It cannot be touched by human hands or seen by human eyes. The something that exists here is an uncontaminated honesty, a well-warranted pride, a pure, old-fashioned type of Southern hospitality that lives within the heart of each one of us and makes each student stand taller, feel better, and say with high pride to all within earshot, I went to Murphy High.
