Chemistry Class, Period 3, left to right: Knox Singleton, Johnny Hatchett, Jimmy Morgan, Perry Brown, and Mr. Thompson Science Prepares Tomorrows’ World... In the world of tomorrow the complex and intricate world of science will be the most important field. The scientist explains the many curious everyday occurrences, conquers many diseases, and replaces the ignorant mind with knowledge. Students in biology extended their knowledge by research projects and numerous field trips in the spring. Each student investigated a project of special interest to him. Chemistry classes visited the town's water plant. Each member of the advanced biology class worked on a special project which was displayed at the end of the year. Earth science students exhibited outstanding rock and mineral exhibits. The science department ordered a radioactivity counter, a Crane Boom, and a Jolly Balance through funds available from the N. Pen and Ink Sketches, left to right: Brenda Stalcup, Carol McRae, Harry Moore, Mary Sue Amos, Brenda Crisp, Dianna Little, and Mike Jordan. Art Develops Self- Repression ... Here pupils learn the basic principles of color and design and how to apply them. Art gives students an opportunity to learn order and beauty, to develop self-expression, to release tension, and to control emotions. This year's class studied units in Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and Modern Art. Students learned to identify at least a hundred of the world's famous paintings and to name the artist and his nationality. The department purchased a new slide projector, screen, and slide cabinet with approximately a hundred slides to begin a slide library. One of the unusual activities demonstrated by the art depart- ment was the clothesline art exhibit held in downtown Murphy dur- ing National Education week. Students took hourly turns sketching on the island in the square. 1 1 MISS TRAVIS
