7a the, Gla i 1958. . . Greetings: This school year has been one of the most pleasant of all my school experience. One of the most important reasons why this year has been so pleasant is that the members of this Senior Class have been about as fine a group of young people as I have ever known. I am proud of every one of you because of your school spirit and the seriousness of purpose that you have shown toward all your school activities. I am confident that as you leave Murphy High School you will continue to reflect credit upon your Alma Mater. Some of you will choose to continue your education in some college or university. Others will enter immediately upon your life's work. Whatever your choice may be I want to assure you of my best wishes. Sincerely yours, Holland McSwain Page 5

f-OJiew-oAxli The school yearbook has been proclaimed the perfect public relation medium as it acquaints the community with the school, the administration, faculty, students, school life and activity. The yearbook creates and builds more interest in the school than any other item. Not only is it a vital part of school activity, but it is a monument to the students, officials, and teachers in the school year it covers. The annual is a book of memories for the students, a valuable record for the school, and a priceless possession of every owner to be cherished more and more as time passes on...

% education MiAA, fluli t McKie, Pe fM,e4. Always a champion in the field of education, and a vitally important figure on our campus, Miss Pegues merits particular attention in this yearbook. Students remember and appreciate her demand for painstaking accuracy and thoroughness. Through her fortitude and perserverance, new fields of learning were opened to them. She set her standards high and made her classes measure up to them. She demanded the very best of each individual and accepted no less. Yet, in her busy schedule, she always managed to find time and patience to help a lagging pupil, no matter how worthless he seemed. Nominated by fellow faculty members and chosen to represent Cherokee County, Miss Pegues was named Teacher of the Year for District I of the North Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs. We at Murphy High School would in gratitude add our prayer—that the years ahead be filled with health, happiness, and the blessings Miss Pegues so richly deserves.
